The 2023 migration crisis in the US is not news to most people. It is an issue that the Biden administration has been struggling to manage ever since he got into power. Over the years, it has gotten worse for a lot of places in the country.
For shelter cities like New York and Chicago, the situation has hindered the progress of the town and its people in general. This is because the rate of influx of migrants has surpassed the city’s capacity to accommodate them.
However, the migrants keep coming in day by day. The government has implemented several policies to check this influx, but more is needed. The migrants keep flowing in at a high rate and try to bypass any hindrance along the way.
In this case, over a hundred migrants came into the suburbs of Chicago over the weekend via local buses and trains. According to several reports, these migrants were unscheduled and chose to use the suburbs on purpose.

This is because coming through the suburbs is a great way to avoid fines and penalties. Many people use this route to ensure they avoid facing the regular checkpoints other routes have.
After arriving in the suburbs, many of them traveled to the city by taking a train to Ogilvie Transportation Center.
Earlier in December, the government noticed the use of suburbs for these kinds of activities and decided to do something about it. The city council sat and passed an ordinance that approves stricter penalties and fines if the city does not get a warning about buses entering the city.

Since implementing this rule, they have caught and fined several defaulters. This is thanks to the strict enforcement of this policy. Since then, there have been 96 citations, and authorities have impounded a bus.
However, this didn’t stop the determined asylum seekers over the weekend. They came in and were lucky enough to go undetected for a while. This is a clear indication that the migration crisis is not getting any better.
The Illinois governor is aware of this ongoing crisis and is trying to manage the situation as the days go by. Governor JB Pritzker also recently announced an additional $160 million to tackle this problem.

He states that they would use the money to book hotel rooms for about 200 migrants for some time. After the shelter the government is building in Little Village is completed, they will move the migrants to the CVS. According to reports, the new shelter would be fully operational by the end of January.
However, some residents are not very happy with these developments. They believe the government is channeling their taxpayers’ funds to the wrong cause.
According to several sources, these residents would prefer the funds to go to their much-needed infrastructure projects rather than migrants’ relief. Undoubtedly, the government has a huge problem on its hands and has yet to find the best way to solve it.
