As the 2024 presidential election draws closer, candidates and their parties are getting their ducks in a row. Donald Trump would represent the Republican party in the 2024 elections, facing off against President Joe Biden.
Trump’s supporters are already doing their best to gain the upper hand. According to Philip Bump of The Washington Post, the former President’s supporters are frantically trying to change the narrative about the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

Some of Trump’s supporters are claiming that left-wing actors and federal informants instigated the riot. This narrative intends to vindicate Trump from any involvement in the riot.
According to Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), the people rioting at The Capitol on Jan. 6 were Antifa and Black Lives Matter rioters. Speaking on a podcast, she said that no one could tell her that the rioters were actually Trump supporters.

However, Philip Bump didn’t believe Greene. In his latest op-ed, he writes, “There’s no evidence of this at all. In fact, it defies any logic. For Greene, though, this is a long-held argument. During the riot itself, she texted White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows to tell him that she and others’ think they are Antifa … [d]ressed like Trump supporters. Of course, that was about 90 minutes after she’d texted Meadows to exhort him to ‘[p]lease tell the President to calm people[.] This isn’t the way to solve anything.”
Bump, however, explained that the way people denied responsibility for the Jan. 6 riots depended on the way they could tweak the narrative of the events that took place. “Many of those who are in prison agreed to plea deals — which is to say they admitted guilt. Others were convicted of assaults on police officers,” he writes.
Bump went further, saying, “Others still were members of groups such as the Proud Boys or Oath Keepers who actively planned to disrupt the transition of power or to aid Trump in doing so. Lumping them all together as victims of a punitive state makes it much easier to ignore what they actually did.”
These denials by Trump supporters are to position Trump as a target of a “deep state” conspiracy. This will further help him gain public sympathy and swing some votes his way. However, the facts remain that Donald Trump lost the 2020 presidential election, but he couldn’t accept it.

Trump insisted that the system was working against him and that the opposition was covering up fraud. So, what did he do? He called out to his fans and supporters across America. He asked them to take a stand and defend the mandate of Making America Great Again.
Donald Trump tweeted on Jan. 6, asking his followers to storm Washington DC for a protest he promised would be wild. He addressed the thousands of fans who showed up. He made fraud claims and eventually egged them on to march to the Capitol.
“In short, the day’s violence was carried out by Trump supporters and supporters of Trump’s politics,” Bump writes.
