Former President Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, fumes about migrants “flooding” the U.S. educational system with Spanish.
During an appearance on NewsMax with Eric Bolling, Trump spoke about European countries taking in Middle Eastern immigrants.
She spoke about the recent riots in Dublin that broke out after authorities identified an Algerian man as the suspect behind the stabbing of five individuals, including three children.
In addition, she spoke about the violent protests that erupted in the country. During the interview, Bolling asked Trump about her opinions on Irish UFC fighter Conor McGregor’s statements. A day before the riots, McGregor posted on social media that Ireland was “at war.” He said that his country’s immigration policies show “the lack of care” that officials “have for the common Irish citizen.”

Consequently, the Irish UFC fighter faced backlash on social media. Also, the statements sparked an investigation by Ireland authorities into allegations that McGregor incited hatred through his posts. However, Trump agrees with McGregor.
“This is all the more reason that people are now starting to wake up,” Trump told Bolling, saying that the situation in Ireland is an example of the threats that the crisis along the U.S. southern border poses to the American public.
“I mean, borders matter,” she added later in the interview. “And you know, it’s funny because, at one time, the borders of this country did matter to those in charge. Borders of a country like Ireland matter as well. And we have our own unique system and way of doing things. We need to know who’s coming into our country.”
“I mean, you have to be part of a society whenever you become a citizen of another country,” Trump continued. “And I think now people are starting to see in a lot of even school systems right now where they’re teaching things in English and they’re teaching them in Spanish,” she added. “I mean, this is the United States of America; we speak English here.”

Like his daughter-in-law, Donald Trump made similar statements during his 2016 presidential campaign. Also, he criticized ex-Florida Gov. Jeb Bush for speaking Spanish while on the campaign trail ahead of the GOP presidential primary.
“I do mean it to a large extent; we have a country where to assimilate, you have to speak English,” Donald Trump said during a Republican primary debate in September 2015. While some agreed with Trump’s comments, others disagreed.
In a phone call with Newsweek, Domingo Garcia, president of the League of United Latin American Citizens, said that Trump’s comments were an example of politicians engaging in “fear-mongering” and using “scapegoating of immigrants for political purposes.”
In addition, Garcia said that Spanish is not a foreign language and was the first European language spoken in America. He added that the language is as American as apple pie, margaritas, and fajitas.

In recent months, the influx of immigrants through the southern border has become a pressing issue. Consequently, President Joe Biden has faced pressure from both sides of the aisle. Tensions have also risen in light of the happenings in Israel and Hamas.
Lara Trump also touted her father-in-law’s immigration policies during her interview. She stated that a significant pillar of Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign was securing the border between the U.S. and Mexico.
“Under Donald Trump as president, we had one of the most secure borders America has ever seen.” Lara Trump said. “Obviously, we’ve gone 180 degrees the other way, but it is all the more reason I think that people are very concerned in this country and rightly so.”
