Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s relationship might be less than a decade old, but their history dates back several years before their first hookup.
Before becoming Kanye West’s wife, television personality, actress, and socialite, Kim Kardashian West was linked with several other stars, including two previous husbands. The actress, who has four children with West, has a long list of exes flaunting notable names like Damon Thomas and Kris Humphries and Ray J.
KIM KARDASHIAN’S RISE TO STARDOM
Aside from maintaining a tabloid-worthy relationship track record, the actress has done well for herself since becoming a celebrated television icon. Her first run-in with the spotlights came with her stint on “The Simple Life,” as a friend and stylist of American actress, musician, and model, Paris Hilton.
The star gained further popularity in 2007, following the release of a 2002 sex-tape “Kim Kardashian Superstar” featuring her and ex-boyfriend Ray J. Months later, E! featured the entire Kardashian clan in a reality television series, “Keeping Up With The Kardashian.” The superstar model, along with her family, run the show to date.
While starring in the reality series, the 39-year-old star got several acting gigs. She snagged roles in movies like “Temptations: Confessions Of A Marriage Counsellor,” “Deep In The Valley,” “Marry Me,” and “Disaster Movie” among others. In addition, she did several television shows.
Later in her career, Kim Kardashian ventured into the entrepreneurial world, adding business woman to her list of titles. She released an iPhone mobile game called “Kim Kardashian: Hollywood,” which pulled in $1.6 million five days after its debut. She continued modeling for different brands, and eventually launched a beauty line, KKW Beauty, in 2017. Her KKW Fragrance followed shortly after. In 2019, the star launched her range of shape-wear, originally named Kimono, but changed to Skims following criticisms.
Today, the actress is worth millions of dollars, with increased earnings due to her widespread popularity. With over 177 million followers on Instagram and millions more on twitter, Kim K has easily made a name as one of the most famous entertainment icons.
It is not far-fetched then that Kim Kardashian’s relationship with another famous icon, Kanye West, would garner public interest.
KIM AND KANYE’S RELATIONSHIP
The lovebirds began as friends several years before Kim K became an A-Lister. However, it took the actress two failed marriages to realize she and West were destined for each other. The two developed a friendship following their meeting in 2004, while West and Brandy were recording a song together. The duo hung out on several occasions, but just as friends — as the model was at the time, Damon Thomas’ wife. Their friendship continued through her second marriage to Humphries, and subsequent divorce.
West was on-hand to support the reality star after the divorce, and even offered her an invitation to see his fashion show in Paris. She honored the request, and that marked the beginning of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian’s love story.
A BEAUTIFUL LOVE STORY
Kim and West took their relationship public in June 2012, shortly after Kanye released “Cold,” his second single from the “Cruel Summer” album. The song admittedly centered on his experience falling in love with Kim while she was head over heels for Humphries.
Their relationship took up a new turn afterward, moving at the speed of light with so much media publicity. The two welcomed their first daughter, North West, in June 2013. Four months later, West popped the big question at the AT&T Park in San Francisco. They tied the knot almost a year later on May 24, 2014.
The couple later welcomed three other children, including Saint West, born in December 2015; Psalm West, born May 2019; and only daughter, Chicago West, born in January 2018. Chicago and Psalm were born to the couple through surrogacy due to certain medical complications.
KIM KARDASHIAN’S EXES
Before West became Kim Kardashian’s husband, she had gone through two divorces, and several other relationships.
The star married her first husband, Damon Thomas, at nineteen after eloping with him in 2000. The nuptials lasted for four years before their divorce in 2004.
Next, she began a relationship with former pro basketballer, Kris Humphries, which led to their 2011 marriage. Their union was met with lots of public criticism as most claimed it was merely a popularity stunt. The pair divorced in 2013.
The businesswoman had also been in a relationship with hip hop artist and actor, Ray J. Their affair never led them down the aisle before the eventual breakup.
Despite the publicity surrounding her marriage to Kanye West, the duo has survived six years together in marital bliss, and a long-standing relationship to date.
