Andrew Tate’s sister, Janine is the third child and only daughter of the late American chess star Emory Andrew Tate Jr.
He was called “a trailblazer for African-American chess” by the first black chess grandmaster Maurice Ashley.
Emory, born on December 27, 1958, was famous on the US chess circuit for his creativity and dangerous tactics. He won close to 80 tournament games against several grandmasters before his demise in 2015.
He passed on his love for the game of chess to his kids especially Andrew and Tristan, who also play. In an old interview, Andrew once revealed that he never saw his father study chess books or use chess computers, a nod to the man’s genius,
