Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet’s relationship was a fantasy come alive for the actor. However, after more than a decade, the couple shockingly separated.
One of Hollywood’s most dramatic and heartwarming romances was the relationship and marriage of Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet. The relationship between the pair is a dream come true and what most kids who’ve ever had a crush on a celebrity would wish for. However, for Momoa, the relationship was what he had never expected, considering he was just eight years old when he saw and fell in love with Bonet, who was starring on “The Cosby Show.”
In 2005 Momoa’s dreams came true when he met Bonet at a Los Angeles jazz club. At that time, Bonet had divorced her husband, Lenny, with whom she shares a daughter Zoë. Momoa couldn’t believe his eyes; however, he found a way to start a discussion with Bonet. The actor then convinced Bonet to drive him to his hotel, and the duo stopped at the now-obsolete 101 Coffee Shop in Hollywood, where Bonet ordered a Guinness and grits. At that moment, Momoa knew he was in love with her saying in an interview with Men’s Health:
“Oh, my God. I can’t believe I’m with a woman who ordered a Guinness. I love her.”
The pair’s relationship from that moment became a fantasy in Hollywood’s terms, and fans loved them together. For nearly 17 years, Momoa and Bonet lived a laid-back life and worked hard to keep their blended family together. But, sadly, that ended when the lovebirds announced their separation in January 2022.
Why Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet Broke Up
After just five years of marriage, Momoa’s separation from Bonet shocked fans after the pair announced their divorce. However, unknown to most people, the couple had separated months before they finally revealed their split. On January 13, the duo released a joint statement on Momoa’s social media page stating:
“We have all felt the squeeze and changes of these transformational times… A revolution is unfolding and our family is of no exception… feeling and growing from the seismic shifts occurring,” the joint statement read. “And so we share our Family news that we are parting ways in marriage.”
Still, after the announcement, E! News released a report detailing why the duo called it quits. According to a source, E! News revealed:
“Jason (Momoa) is very focused on his career and wants to work. He has found success, and it’s driving him and is very fulfilling. Lisa (Bonet) wants to be in LA and is not interested in going on location for long periods of time with him. Momoa was moving in a different direction, and it did not fit together with her lifestyle,they drifted apart and wanted different things.”
Momoa and Bonet Are Parents to Two Children
Just two years after the lovebirds met, Momoa and Bonet welcomed their first child, Lola Iolani, in July 2007. During the pregnancy, the duo decided against checking the sex of the baby and left it as a surprise until delivery. While speaking about their decision later, Bonet explained she loved the mystery of it, and it added another component to her childbearing experience.
Momoa and Bonet’s second child Nokoa-Wolf was born just a year after their first child. Like their first child, Bonet also refused to check the sex until delivery day. Momoa and Bonet cared for their children as adequately as possible during their marriage. Speaking about Bonet’s motherhood qualities after their wedding in 2017, Momoa explained:
“Her ultimate art form is being a phenomenal mother. It’s real love. Seeing them (kids) grow, learning from them, teaching them … it’s just the greatest thing in the world.”
Momoa also has an excellent relationship with Bonet’s first child, Zoë, who frequently calls him “papa bear.” A month after Momoa and Bonet announced their separation, the actor showed up for the premiere of “Batman” to support Zoë. At the event, Momoa also clarified he and Bonet were not back together, but they were family regardless.
Jason Momoa Has a New Girlfriend
Just months after his divorce from Bonet, the “See” actor seems to have found love again. This time around, Momoa is dating actress Eiza González as per People. According to the publication, Momoa and González are dating, and the actor cares about her. The report also indicates that Momoa and González are both busy with their careers but are having fun together.
Meanwhile, Momoa made a surprise appearance at the premiere of González’s movie “ Ambulance” in May, although the couple did not walk the red carpet together. Still, it looks like the two are taking things slowly and do not want to rush into anything serious.
