Celebrities have the opportunity to travel the world because of their spotlight status. However, sometimes, their actions in other countries could lead to a denied access.
More often than not, celebrities are able to travel to different countries as they deem fit. This could be work-related or for vacation. However, sometimes, things could go awry.
Many stars have made it to news headlines for being banned from entering certain countries. This has to do with either violating the code of conduct or touching on sensitive issues. Check out celebrities who have were banned from other countries.
Katy Perry
Katy Perry was once in China, and in one of her concerts, the star had worn the Taiwanese flag at Taipei Arena. To make matters worse, she also rocked a colorful look that had sunflowers etched into it.
In China, the symbol of the sunflower is of the Sunflower Student Movement. In 2014, the movement caused an uproar on Chinese trade agreements. In retrospect, the authorities placed her on an indefinite ban.
Miley Cyrus
Miley Cyrus crooner faced the same fate as Perry did in China. Only this time, hers was detected on social media. The “Don’t Call Me Angel’ crooner had posted a photo of herself, and her eyes appeared slanted.
This was in 2009, and the Chinese government called her out and termed her as no friend of China or the people of East Asian descent. The Chinese foreign minister Yang Jiechi referred to Cyrus’ actions as “American ignorance.”
Alec Baldwin
The authorities in the Philippines blacklisted the Hollywood actor because of a joke he cracked while on “Late Night with David Letterman.” The “It’s Complicated” actor had joked about “mail-ordering a Filipino bride.”
This did not sit well with the Filipino government, and a blacklisting followed suit. Baldwin later issues an apology, but this did not make lead to a reverse of the decision.
Beyoncé
Beyoncé faced a restriction in Malaysia after one of her performances. The Pan-Malaysian Islamic party canceled her 2007 concert because some of the party members found her dance routines to be inappropriate.
Snoop Dogg
Snoop Dogg raised curious brows after the Norwegian government frowned on some of his acts. The “Gin & Juice” rapper went to Norway in 2012, and during the search routine, the law agents found eight grams of marijuana on him. The authorities then issued Snoop a two-year ban.
Justin Bieber
The “Peaches” crooner reportedly assaulted a photographer during his performance in Argentina. He was also said to have disrespected the county’s flag while on stage.
Chris Brown
The British and Canadian authorities flagged off the singer after news of his domestic violence case got out. This was in connection to how he battered his former girlfriend, and fellow music star, Rihanna, in 2009.
50 Cent
The Canadian government banned 50 cent from visiting the country because of his past criminal records and his alleged tendency to promote gun violence. He could not perform in Toronto in 2005 due to the restriction.
