Over the years, Hollywood has been plagued with heartbreaking tales of Disney stars who died. Since its inception, Disney has built a reputation as a brand that creates stars, with names like Miley Cyrus, Shia LaBeouf, Demi Lovato, and Selena Gomez.
While all of those performers have faced difficulties and setbacks, they have also achieved enormous professional success. However, the story is not usually the same for every Disney child star, as some people’s lives take a fatal turn.
While some have died from rare sickness, others have simply been bad luck or self-inflicted. Consequently, these actors never got to reach their full potential and feature in adult films and series.
For example, when Rob Knox of Harry Potter and Cameron Boyce of Disney died, their careers had already taken off.
Cameron Boyce
In July 2019, Cameron Boyce, known for roles in Disney’s “Jessie” and “Descendants,” passed away at 20. Boyce was discovered lifeless at his home in North Hollywood after suffering an epilepsy attack. Boyce’s epilepsy was later acknowledged by his parents, who stated that recurring seizures characterized the illness.
After the autopsy, the LA County Coroner stated that the actor passed away from a “sudden, unexpected death in epilepsy.” Despite his tragic passing at such a young age, Boyce had found a passion he enjoyed.
In addition to being an actor, Boyce was a philanthropist. He was awarded at the 2019 Thirst Gala for raising more than $77,000 to supply clean water to Swaziland.

Jansen Panettiere, known for his roles in “The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry” and “How High 2,” passed away at 28. The actor, who was popular for his work with Disney and Nickelodeon, died of an enlarged heart. Despite his movie career, Panettiere had a quieter career than his sister, Hayden Panettiere.
After landing his first major role in the Nickelodeon movie “The Last Day of Summer,” Panettiere continued to act until his untimely death. After Panettiere’s cause of death was established, his parents and sister released a statement about him.
Lee Thompson Young
In August 2013, Lee Thompson Young was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment at the age of 29 after committing suicide. Young had achieved fame following his performance as a juvenile secret agent in Disney’s “The Famous Jett Jackson” from 1998 to 2001.
Young’s body was discovered in his North Hollywood apartment after he failed to show up for a planned call time during the shooting of the TNT drama “Rizzoli and Isles.” According to the New York Daily News, the late actor was receiving treatment for bipolar illness and depression.
Following his death, his family created the Lee Thompson Young Foundation to raise mental illness awareness and reduce the stigma.

Michael Galeota, who appeared in Disney’s “The Jersey,” passed away in January 2016 at 31. According to TMZ, Galeota was hospitalized for gastrointestinal symptoms and then departed before medical personnel cleared him.
Galeota, who suffered from high cholesterol, high blood pressure, and diverticulitis, was later discovered dead at his Glendale, California, home. Galeota’s brother, Jimmy Galeota, stated that their family was uncertain about the competency of care that Galeota received.
It was later confirmed that heart disease was eventually determined to be the cause of death.
Brad Renfro
Brad Renfro was a prolific and acclaimed actor who battled substance abuse problems throughout his brief life. Renfro had gained popularity after starring in Disney’s 1995 film “Tom and Huck” alongside Jonathan Taylor Thomas.
Renfro was rumored to have been addicted to heroin. He began smoking cannabis at the age of nine, drinking at the age of eleven, and began shooting up at the age of twelve. Renfro’s problems may have been aggravated by his childhood exposure in Hollywood, where he was objectified for his sex appeal.
Fernando Altschul, the first assistant director of 1998’s “Apt Pupil,” told BuzzFeed that Renfro frequented adult film-related parties as a teenager. According to People, Renfro was arrested many times for DUI, drug possession, and attempting to steal a boat. Sadly, the actor died of a heroin overdose in January 2008 at 25.

In June 2019, Daniel James Burda was arrested in connection with Day’s death and disappearance. Burda was charged with second-degree manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, abuse of a corpse, identity theft, and more.
Burda has called the charges “messed up.” Five years after the discovery of Dennis Day’s body, sentencing for Burda is yet to be handed down as his murder trial has continued to be delayed.
Another case of a child star who was tragically murdered is Rob Knox, who played Marcus Belby in “Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.” Knox, who was 18, was stabbed to death outside a bar in Sidcup, Kent, by Karl Bishop. Another tragic story is Judith Barsi, who was killed by her father in a murder-suicide.
