On Monday, December 11, 2023, the popular “Brooklyn Nine-Nine” actor Andre Braugher passed away at 61. Three days later, on December 14, 2023, Braugher’s representative announced that he had passed away from lung cancer.

After playing the character of Detective Frank Pembleton in “Homicide: Life on the Street,” Braugher achieved national limelight. The show, which aired on NBC, lasted seven seasons before coming to an end in 1999.

Reacting to Braugher’s death, NBC Entertainment released a statement on Tuesday, December 12, 2023, saying, “We will miss him tremendously.” Here’s everything we know about Andre Braugher’s cause of death.

What Was André Braugher’s Cause of Death? 

Following Andre Braugher’s death announcement in December 2023, his representative announced he passed away from a brief illness. Other reports were released confirming that the actor died of lung cancer. However, the report did not disclose how long the actor was ill for, only that the diagnosis had come very recently.

After Braugher’s death was announced, his colleagues took to their various social media accounts to pay their tributes. In the wake of Braugher’s passing, Terry Crews, who starred alongside him, took to Instagram to share his condolences.

Subsequently, during the second “Live in Front of a Studio Audience” special on ABC, Viola Davis paid tribute to Braugher. Posting to Instagram, Davis said, “Heartbreaking. You went way too soon… You will be missed, Andre.”

On Monday, December 11, 2024, Jennifer Allen, Braugher’s publicist, revealed that he had passed away. Although she didn’t disclose more about his death, Allen revealed that the actor passed away in the evening that day. However, it was later revealed that Andre Braugher passed away after a brief battle with lung cancer.

In addition to Crews and Davis, Shonda Rhimes took to her Instagram to express her condolences. Rhimes was one of the last people to work with Braugher, producing his previous project, “The Residence.” Andre Braugher, a Chicago native, is survived by his wife, Ami Brabson, and their children: John Wesley, Michael, and Isaiah.
