Mayor Eric Adams often rides on the waves of the many interviews he has to give. However, he recently got a social media backlash for a tongue-in-cheek statement he made at the spur of the moment. The comment had something to do with a casual mention of the 9/11 catastrophe.
During a Sunday interview with Pix 11 News, Adams skillfully responded to many questions from the host. However, a single slur was his one-way ticket to the cleaners.
During the live interaction, the interviewer asked Adams to assess President Joe Biden’s administration in 2024. Any Democrat would understand how tactical and diplomatic such a question can be. So, he responded that the president had been okay.
The Pix 11 News interviewer obviously had his question well scripted out. He also allowed Adams to do a self-assessment of his performance as mayor. Adams responded that he could have handled the migrant crisis better. Likewise, Adams mentioned that he expects the Federal government to provide more migrant support for the City in the new year.

In an extra push, the interviewer asked the New York City mayor to describe his year in one word. That happens to be the point where Adams’s feathers got all ruffled up. Next, Adams gave his now-viral response. He said, “New York, this is a place where every day you wake up, you could experience everything from a plane crashing into our [World] Trade Center to a person who’s celebrating a new business that’s opening. This is a very, very complicated city, and that’s why it’s the greatest city on the globe.”
Some pro-Adams New Yorkers have sympathized with the mayor’s gaffe. According to them, it happens to the best of us. Besides, this same Mayor Adams commented about 9/11 this September, which earned him some patts on the back.

In his September remark, Adams pointed out that 9/11 is not an event that New Yorkers and all Americans can easily forget. He then proceeded to point out that 9/11 itself was not a phenomenal day.
Instead, he leveraged the unity, sympathy, and patriotism Americans displayed in the following days. The rescue missions, sacrifices by the firefighters, and relief donations by private organizations and philanthropists all exemplified the height of American comradeship.
However, some social media users, particularly on X, were not very forgiving. One X user, @AndrewFiggy, said something like Eric Adams speaking rubbish on the fly. In effect, that X user wants Mayor Adam to display a better handle on his thoughts and screen the ones flying into the cosmos.
Likewise, many of Adams’ critics feel daily expecting a plane to crash into a New York City building is not very assuring, coming from the mayor. Interestingly, Mayor Eric Adams has a track record of handling hecklers.
However, in response to the 9/11 critics, Adams repainted the story. In the new version, the mayor explains that he meant to cite the landing of a plane in the Hudson River.
