On September 29, 2021, Ashley Lytton, from Utah, made a horrifying discovery when she decided to go through her husband’s devices. The discovery drastically changed her perception of her husband, Jason Lytton, and their family built over a decade.

According to reports, Ashley discovered evidence of child sexual assault in a hidden folder on her husband’s iCloud account. Leading up to the discovery, Jason had asked Ashley to assist him in creating a Venmo account.

However, barely minutes after he had given her his device, he panicked to get it back. This made Ashley suspicious, as it was unusual of Jason. Afterward, Ashley began to search through Jason’s computer files.

Eventually, she discovered a collection on his device and informed the police, who started looking into her accusations against Jason. What was the horrifying discovery that made Ashley Lytton call the cops on her husband? Here’s what we know.

Yes, it is. The second season of “Betrayal: A Father’s Secret on Hulu” debuted on July 30, 2024, and centers around Jason Lytton’s case. Based on the true-crime podcast series “Betrayal,” the three-part docuseries from ABC News Studios includes interviews with Ashley and her now-18-year-old daughter Avaya (Jason’s stepdaughter).

Additionally, it includes first-hand accounts from people who were directly involved in the case. The documentary shows how Ashley’s discovery devastated her family and her attempts to shield her two daughters and son from the consequences.

The story details Jason’s incarceration, Ashley’s uncovering of his actions, challenges in legal proceedings, and her struggles to distance herself. It features interviews with Ashley, her family, their acquaintances, and experts.

After his arrest, police searched Jason’s iCloud account and cell phone and discovered over 1,000 photos and videos of child sexual assault material, according to an arrest affidavit.

The anonymous caller who alerted authorities claimed that the images they saw seemed to show girls between the ages of 8–15. In his affidavit, Jason stated that he “had a problem,” acknowledging how sick his actions were.

How Did Jason Lytton Get Arrested?

In October 2021, Ashley Lytton contacted the Riverton City police, and with their assistance, she tricked Jason into going to a Walmart parking lot to talk about something. However, he was taken into custody instead.

Jason was charged with 100 counts of sexually abusing a minor. However, he took a plea bargain and was subsequently found guilty of lesser offenses. He entered a guilty plea to one of the two voyeurism offenses and one of sexual exploitation.

Who is Jason Lytton?

Jason Lytton, 41 years old, is a registered sex offender from Utah. In 2021, Jason made national headlines after he was arrested in connection with child pornography. He was married to Ashley Lytton, whom he shares a 10-year-old with.

Additionally, Jason is the stepfather to Ashley’s two other kids, one of whom is Avaya. Jason and Ashley had lived as normal with their three kids before Jason’s secret became public.

The two became a couple while Ashley was a single mother raising her two children from a previous relationship. They married four years later and share a young daughter together. However, tragedy struck, and their lives in Riverton, Utah, as they knew it, became a distant memory.

Where Is Jason Lytton Now?

Jason Lytton is alive and reportedly lives in Riverton, Utah. He was found guilty of sexual exploitation of minors. Consequently, he was sentenced to 2 years of supervised probation and 329 days in Salt Lake County Jail, with credit for time already served.

Along with his sentence, he was also required to finish a mental health evaluation and a cognitive-behavioral treatment. The outlet stated that he was also required to follow the guidelines for Group A Sexual Offenders. However, after ten months in prison, Jason was set free.
