She said, “I’m sorry, listen, every generation comes and wants to do better than their parents did. But, I’m sorry, if you only want to work four hours, it’s going to be harder for you to get a house. I’m sorry, we busted our behinds.”

Why Did Whoopi Goldberg Make the Comments?

Goldberg did not just make the comments without reason in the Wednesday airing of the show. During a Wednesday Hot Topics discussion, she commented about millennials’ views on the American Dream and their ability to buy property and start families.

The panelists were airing their views on the topic, which is often talked about by many people.

Who Are Millennials?

The millennial generation includes anyone born between 1981 and 1996. This means anyone between the ages of 27 and 42 in 2023.

Statistical analysis of specific trends chooses this age range rather than it being a strict identifier like other generational cohorts. The age group is the Generation Y, preceding the Generation Z.

Alyssa Farah Griffin’s Disapproval

Right there on the show, Goldberg’s co-host, Alyssa Farah Griffin, disagreed with her comments on the millennials. She pushed back against her co-host’s comments, noting that Goldberg’s generation “gave us the housing crisis, though.”

She argued that the older generation that preceded the millennials did more harm than good when they were in power. Therefore, it is significantly more challenging for millennials to thrive without overworking themselves.

Whoopi Goldberg Remained Unbothered

The award-winning actress was unbothered by the disagreement of her co-host, Griffin.

Instead, she said, “Every generation is told, ‘You’re going to do worse than your parents. You know what? People pick it up, and they do what they do, and they raise themselves. This is what you’ve got to do. It’s called being a good citizen.”

The Public’s Disapproval

As soon as the episode aired, there was an uproar among the public audience. Several people took to social media platforms to express their outrage at her comments.

They cited that Goldberg’s claims were based purely on what she believed, not facts. Several people also mentioned that she should be more careful while addressing some issues.

Proof Whoopi Goldberg Was Wrong

According to several reports and sources, Goldberg’s assumptions were incorrect. A simple Google search can prove this.

The millennials are hard at work, and statistics show that more millennials are in the active workforce than their parents before them. In fact, they had a rough start to adulthood thanks to the constant decline in the economy and its financial system.

The Millennials Are Bearing Financial Scars

According to several reports, the millennials are currently bearing the financial scars of the generation before them.

This is Whoopi Goldberg’s generation, who did not put the proper facilities in place to help the upcoming generation. Some of the country’s lawmakers still fall under Whoopi’s generation and are the predecessors of a corrupt system that benefits no one.

Millennials Are Thriving Regardless

One thing about most millennials is their ability to thrive in difficult situations. Despite not being built in their favor, many in this category still make headway in the economy.

They find menial jobs and are the most stable work age when it comes to holding down a job, compared to the others.

Whoopi Goldberg’s Response to the Millennials

The actress got a lot of backlash for her comments. She made no comments online but addressed the issue on the next airing of the multi-award-winning show.
