Who Is Tom Cruise Married To?
Cruise has been married thrice as of 2023; his first wife was Mimi Rogers, an American actress whom he got married to in 1987 and divorced in 1989. Second, Cruise married Nicole Kidman in December 1990. Their marriage ended finally in 2001. Third, Katie Holmes, whom he married in November 2006. Sadly their marriage ended in 2012.
Tom Cruise’s First Marriage
Cruise’s first wife, Mimi Rogers, is an American actress popular for her roles in several movies and TV shows, including The Rapture, Paper Dolls, and The X-Files. In a 1986 interview, Cruise shared that he first met Rogers at a dinner party in 1985, when he was developing Top Gun. However, Rogers revealed in another interview that they were introduced by a mutual friend.
Regardless of how they met, the two were visibly in love based on how fondly they usually talked about each other. Cruise and Rogers got married in the spring of 1987. Their marriage was the talk of the town–not just because of Cruise’s stardom but also because Rogers was eight years older than he was.
Unfortunately, their marriage was short-lived, as Cruise filed for a divorce in 1989. Cruise did so without publicly sharing why they ended their marriage. Though in a 1993 interview, Rogers revealed that their marriage ended because Cruise was seriously considering becoming a monk and remaining celibate to achieve sexual purity, and she just couldn’t deal with that. However, the actress retracted her statement later, saying she was misinterpreted earlier.
Cruise’s Second Marriage
Less than a year after Cruise and Rogers finalized their divorce, Cruise married Nicole Kidman in December 1990. The pair had first met earlier that year while filming Days of Thunder. Cruise had played a race car driver, and Kidman played his love interest. Kidman was 23 at the time, while Cruise was 28.
Shortly after Cruise and Rogers separated in 1990, Cruise and Kidman got married. The couple later worked on another movie together, Far and Away. They adopted their daughter named Isabella that same year and their son Connor later in 1995.
Cruise and Kidman collaborated for yet another movie titled Eyes Wide Shut. Though they separated in early 2001 due to the divergent careers that kept them apart from each other.
After finalizing their divorce, the courts granted both Cruise and Kidman full custody of their children. However, Connor and Isabella preferred to live full-time with Cruise. This decision was made because they were closer to him since they shared the same religion (Scientology).
Another Wedding
Following Cruise’s divorce, rumors that he might be dating Katie Holmes flew. This happened when the pair were seen together on a trip to Europe in 2005. Things got serious when they got engaged two months after dating and welcomed their daughter Suri Cruise in April 2006.
The couple was married in a Scientologist ceremony at the 15th-century Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano, Italy. Both Cruise and the couple’s fans were shocked when Holmes suddenly filed for a divorce in 2012.
Although the reason for their sudden split isn’t generally known, reports claimed that the major reason was that Holmes wanted to protect her daughter Suri from Cruise’s religion, Scientology, which she was alleged to dislike.
Though there have been rumors of Tom Cruise being romantically entangled with the popular British-American actress Hayley Atwell. Cruise has been quiet about these rumors.
Another marriage that started out well yet ended in a shocking twist for fans is that of Jason Momoa and Lisa Bonet.
