Is the pet-as-fashion accessory trend back again? On May 1, the Oscar-award-winning actor Lupita Nyong’o posed elegantly on the red carpet of her upcoming movie “A Quiet Place: Day One” with her feline friend. This isn’t just an ordinary cat; it is quite famous. Lupita Nyong’o’s cat is named Yoyo. Lupita Nyong’o adopted the cat last year after breaking up with her boyfriend. According to her, the cat is “saving her.”
In Nyong’o’s upcoming movie, the cat is also an actor named Schnitzel (you can see the cat in the trailer). For the event, Schnitzel wore a bowtie and a bandana with a white polka dot. Nyong’o, on the other hand, wore a pink pantsuit with two front pockets. For her accessories, she wore a diamond collar necklace, a cuff bracelet with diamond earrings, and a silver ring.
More Details on Why Lupita Nyong’o Adopted a Cat
For the Day One tour in Paris, Nyong’o didn’t go with Schnitzel; instead, she had a silver purse shaped like a cat to accompany her shiny silver jacket dress. Later, Nyong’o wore a cheetah-printed catsuit and a hat with cat ears. It looks like Schnitzel is the star of Lupita Nyong’o’s movie. The 41-year-old actor has never been a lover of cats, but things are different now. After the split from Selema Masekela, her then-boyfriend whom she dated for a year, Lupita Nyong’o was left broken and needed a way to get her mind off things, especially considering that she feels whatever they shared was built on deception. It’s not surprising that Lupita Nyong’o felt really heartbroken after the breakup; she hasn’t been one to post or talk about her love life on social media. So, the fact that she posted Masekela means the relationship was no small thing. To get past the hurt, she did something she never thought she would have done.
Nyong’o adopted a cat. On Instagram, Nyong’o shared a picture of her cat with the caption, “Introducing my new companion. When my life was altered instantly recently, a little voice whispered to me that it was time to embrace change and new possibilities.” Nyong’o named her new companion Yoyo. The stunning actress revealed that she adopted the cat from Best Friends Adoption Center, and after taking care of it for three days, she knew she couldn’t give him up.

How Did Lupita Nyong’o Get Into Acting?
The Kenyan-Mexican actress started her acting career when she returned to Kenya during school summer vacation. At that time, the production of “The Constant Gardener” was happening in her area. So, she decided to join the set as a production assistant.
While on set, she met Ralph Fiennes, who advised that she should become an actor if acting was something she couldn’t imagine not doing. After that experience, Lupita Nyong’o went on to pursue her passion for acting. She completed her education at Yale School of Drama, where she graduated with a master’s degree in acting. Afterward, she got her first feature in “12 Years a Slave.” Her performance in the movie gained her a lot of attention, and this appearance earned her the Best Supporting Actress Award at the Academy Awards.
