Charles Smith, a TikTok prankster, is facing charges of introducing poison, criminal damage, and endangerment. These charges come after he filmed himself spraying insecticide on fresh produce at an Arizona Walmart shop.
According to a Mesa Police Department press statement, 27-year-old Smith, also known on TikTok as Wolfie Kahletti, was arrested and charged on Saturday, December 21. This was for reportedly spraying toxic chemicals on multiple food products earlier that week.
What Did Charles Smith Do?
According to police, Smith went inside the Walmart on South Stapley Drive at 8:30 p.m. local time on December 19 to make a prank video for his TikTok account. They claim Smith picked up a can of Hot Shot Ultra Bed Bug & Flea Killer without paying for it.
Then, he reportedly sprayed it on fresh produce and other food items, such as vegetables, fruit, and rotisserie poultry, for sale. According to authorities, Smith filmed himself picking up the pesticide can and spraying it across the meal in a now-deleted TikTok video. Court documents acquired by PEOPLE show Smith fled the store and released the footage afterward.
“Once he left, he began to see comments online saying how horrible the act was, and he decided to return and collect the items,” according to the documents. The Mesa Police Department announced that through investigative efforts, detectives identified the TikToker as the suspect.
Notably, Charles Smith voluntarily turned himself in after being contacted by Mesa Police. During an interview with the police, he admitted to the theft and spraying of the pesticide.
What Are Charles Smith’s Charges?
Charles Smith is now charged with criminal damage, endangerment, and theft, all misdemeanors, as well as introducing poison, a class 6 felony in Arizona. According to court filings, Smith referred to himself as a “troll,” and he frequently posted outrageous pranks intended to stir controversy or outcry.
In his TikTok bio, Smith describes himself as a “tycoon creator” and “supreme villain.” His videos consistently receive more than one million views, with some reaching 12 million. Recent videos on Smith’s page feature pranks that show him using a bike lock or bungee cord to lock clients inside open establishments while standing outside the doors.
He also placed raw bacon into a laundromat washing machine used by a stranger. According to court papers, Smith earns $6,000 to $10,000 monthly from TikTok.
Walmart told PEOPLE that all of the products involved in the incident had been removed from the store, and the area had been carefully cleaned. According to the Mesa Police Department, this instance exemplifies what may happen when social media is used excessively.
Smith later published two videos showing him removing produce from shelves and repositioning it throughout the Walmart shop. The TikToker informed the outlet that all of the produce was “thrown away right after.” He added, “No one was poisoned.”
