In February 2024, “Vanderpump Rules” alums Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor announced their separation after four years of marriage. While the couple didn’t cite a particular reason for the split, they hinted at having difficulties.
At the premiere of their new Bravo show, “The Valley,” the former couple shared that several contentious moments led to their separation. Brittany Cartwright noted that she’s been Taylor’s “ride or die for nine years.” However, she said, “There’s only so much a woman can take.”
“Once a woman hits her breaking point, it’s like ‘Done!'” Cartwright stated. “Something like clicked in my head, and I was like, ‘I need to step away from this situation.'” The reality star added, “This is not healthy. This is not a good situation. My son deserves better. I deserve better.”
During her exclusive interview with PEOPLE, the 35-year-old TV personality revealed that she’s staying at an Airbnb with their 2-year-old son Cruz. Furthermore, she explained how Cruz is the “most important thing” and “all that matters.”

Regarding her time away from her estranged husband, Taylor, Brittany Cartwright said she’s been “working on” herself. “I feel a little bit of relief,” she said. “I needed this space.” Notably, fans criticized the then-couple for announcing their separation at the premiere of their new show.
Many saw it as an opportunity to garner attention for their show and faulted the timing. However, the reality TV star explained that she did not choose to announce their separation “for their show.”
“If people actually have watched me over the years and know my personality,” Brittany Cartwright explained. “They would know this is not something I would do for our show.”
“Like, I’m all about family. I’m all about marriage. I’ve been about that my entire life,” she added. “So this is something real I really needed to step back from.” At the premiere, Jax Taylor also said the separation was “best for their family.”

The TV personality and model noted that they have “been going through some things” for a while. “We decided to take a little bit of a breather,” Taylor said. “I’m not sure what the future holds for this. But as of right now, this is just the best-case scenario.” Like his estranged wife, Taylor also debunked the timing rumors.
He emphasized, “This is not a publicity stunt!” Furthermore, he explained that the show’s production has been going on for a “very, very long time.” As a result, the TV personality said it shows that “something is going on” in their relationship.
Taylor also gave a little insight into their relationship, saying they see each other daily and work on the businesses together. “Nothing has really changed other than we’re not sleeping in the same bed right now,” he said. “We can still be together; We’re just kind of taking a breather.”
