The Governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, and the President of the United States, Joe Biden, do not always see eye to eye on issues. This has become much worse after the immigration crisis that the country is facing increased drastically in 2023.
In a NewsMax interview, the Republican Governor criticized Biden’s administration for suing him over Texas’ new law. The law criminalizes border crossing at the state level and allows state judges to deport migrants. It also allows officers to detain migrants if they catch them.
“If Joe Biden spent as much time securing the border as he has suing the state of Texas, we would actually have a secure border,” Abbott told Eric Bolling in the interview. “They’re trying to deny Texas the ability to secure the border.”
According to Abbott, he put these measures in place to protect his state from the increased influx of migrants. Texas has reached its holding capacity and also surpassed it because immigration hasn’t stopped. Therefore, he had no choice but to take drastic measures to ensure the reduction of these immigrants.

Furthermore, Abbott sent thousands of migrants via bus to shelter cities like Chicago and New York. As those cities were already above their capacity, many saw it as an unfair move by the Governor.
However, Abbott defended his actions, saying he did not support the country’s immigration policies. Therefore, he transported the migrants to Democratic-led states that supported the laws.
As a last resort, he passed the bill that criminalizes illegal border crossings and has gotten a lot of backlash for it. The Justice Department filed a suit against Texas, informing state officials that they had until Jan. 3, 2024, to confirm to the federal government that they would not enforce the law.

The Supreme Court deliberated on the issue and gave the federal government the exclusive right to regulate borders and immigration. However, Abbott hopes the court will overturn prior rulings and side with him. In an interview with Bolling, Abbott defended his stance, saying that Texas has a legal right to protect itself.
“Texas has a legal right under Article 4 Section 4 of the Constitution under Article 1 Section 10 to defend itself from the open border policies caused by the Biden Administration,” he said. The Justice Department also sued Abbot earlier because of the barbed wire and buoys he ordered authorities to put along the border.
In addition, New York City Mayor Eric Adams is suing the bus companies Abbott used to transport migrants into his city. New York identifies as a sanctuary city, but it has allowed more migrants than it can take to enter.

Therefore, the city is battling a serious overcrowding problem. There are immigrants on the streets, homeless, and suffering as each day goes by. Chicago is another sanctuary city that also feels the impact of this crisis.
Its residents are complaining bitterly that their parks and other public areas are overflowing with homeless migrants every day. Clearly, the migration crisis is not getting better, and the Biden administration needs to restrategize to make things work.
