The raging Los Angeles fire hasn’t spared anything on its way, including the homes of celebrities. Even the most high-profile California residents, from Paris Hilton to James Woods, have watched their properties burn to the ground.
Los Angeles has been in chaos as wildfires spread across the city at alarming rates. On Tuesday, January 7, 2025, ferocious wildfires, aided by dry weather and powerful winds, swept through tens of thousands of acres of forests and residential areas. At least 10 people have died and hundreds injured. Here are some celebrities whose homes were destroyed by the LA fire.
Celebrities Affected By California Wildfires
As of the time of writing, nearly 200,000 people have been forced out of their homes in the Palisades, Hurst, Lidia, and Eaton areas. Celebrities have been affected, too. Here are 10 celebrities whose homes were destroyed by the LA fire.
Paris Hilton
Media Personality and businesswoman Paris Hilton is “heartbroken beyond words.” She made the statement in a sad post on Instagram after she was forced to evacuate her home. She disclosed that she watched her Malibu mansion burn on TV.
“Sitting with my family, watching the news, and seeing our home in Malibu burn to the ground on live TV is something no one should ever have to experience,” she lamented. She, however, expressed relief that her family and pets came out safely.
Billy Crystal
Billy Crystal’s home in the Pacific Palisades, the area most affected by the fires, was also not spared. Crystal and his wife had lived there for over 40 years before it was burned down. Speaking to journalists on Thursday, he said, “Words cannot describe the enormity of the devastation we are witnessing and experiencing.”
Tina Knowles
Tina Knowles shared a video of her Malibu home on Instagram. She took the video a few days before the fires began. The “tiny little bungalow on the water in Malibu” is no longer standing. “It was my favorite place, my sanctuary, my sacred Happy Place,” she lamented.
Ricki Lake
Ricki Lake and her husband also lost their “dream home” to the fire. The TV host and actress expressed sadness while sharing their story on Instagram. “It was our heaven on earth,” she wrote. “The place where we planned to grow old together,” she added.
Anna Faris
The Los Angeles fire also destroyed Anna Faris’ home. One of her spokespersons told reporters that she had to relocate from the building. Thankfully, her family is intact. “Anna and her family are safe and very grateful,” the spokesperson said.
Melissa Rivers
Joan Rivers’ daughter, Mellissa Rivers, told journalists that she had to run out of her home as the fire approached. She said her family only escaped with just a few items they could carry. These included her mom’s Emmy award, a photo of her dad, and an artwork. “My heart is so broken,” she stated.
James Woods
Actor and Hollywood veteran James Woods didn’t share his story on social media. He took to television as he lamented the destruction of his home, which he said was in the “exact epicenter of the fire.”
In an interview he granted to CNN, he said, “There was so much chaos … Every house was on fire around us. One day, you’re swimming in the pool, and the next day, it’s all gone.”
Cameron Mathison
“What’s left of our beautiful home,” read Cameron Mathison’s caption as she posted a video of her home and community, which had been destroyed. He disclosed that his family cherished the home so much. It was where he raised his kids. He also planned for his children to raise theirs in the same place.
Diane Warren
Diane Warren’s beach house was destroyed by the fire. She also shared footage of the ruins on Instagram, where she disclosed that she has owned the place for over 30 years. Thankfully, the fire didn’t destroy the entire property. “The animals and the rescue ranch are OK tho, which is the most important thing,” she wrote.
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag
Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag took to Snapchat and TikTok to decry the loss of their home to the Los Angeles Fire. They painfully evacuated their home and watched as it burnt to the ground. He also shared footage showing his nursery and house deck in flames. He declared that the memory would “haunt me forever.”
What Caused the Palisades Fire?
The Palisades region has so far experienced the highest level of devastation from the wildfires. Over 19,000 acres of land have so far given in to the intense fury of the fire. Experts have traced the Palisades fire to dry weather. The atmosphere has been pretty dry for some time, with humidity at its lowest in many months.
The National Weather Service says this condition, coupled with offshore winds with speeds more than 70 mph, is responsible. The service has warned that the level of devastation could continue until after Friday, January 10, 2025. The same applies to other affected areas, such as the Woodland and Hollywood Hills areas.
Currently, at least 19,978 acres of Palisade land have been consumed by the fire. Sadly, authorities have only been able to contain 6% of the fire. As of the time of writing, the Pacific Palisades fire casualties included two deaths. Hundreds have also been injured.
