Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack were once the beloved couple and stars of HGTV’s “Flip or Flop.” However, their marriage ended as their fame rose on the show.
Tarek El Moussa and his ex-his wife Christina Haack are the pioneer and stars of the popular show “Flip or Flop” on HGTV. Just in case you’ve never seen it, the couple film the process of flipping a property from start to finish,
While Tarek takes care of the financial aspects of buying and selling a property for profit, Christina primarily handles designing the houses and keeping everything up to schedule.
The couple opened their real estate agency “Tarek and Christina: The El Moussa Group” just after they met and started dating. They bought their first house in Santa Anna for $115,000, from which they made a $34,000 profit.
Tarek and Chistina subsequently expanded their real-estate business to Arizona and Nevada. After that, however, they had to halt their business due to the 2008 stock market crash. With most of their business on hold, the pair exchanged marital vows in 2009.
On September 22, 2010, the couple welcomed their first child, Taylor Reese El Moussa. They also completed their first house flip in six months, earning them a modest profit.
However, their fortunes changed in 2011 when Tarek casually filmed himself flipping a house from start to finish. He subsequently sent the video as an audition tape to HGTV.
The video impressed producers at the station, and they signed the couple up. Their show “Flip or Flop” premiered in April 2013 and was highly successful.
Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack’s Marital Problems
Tarek and Christina had to deal with their first major marital scare at the height of their career and TV fame. It all started after a fan of their series who happened to be a nurse noticed a lump on Tarek’s neck.
After contacting the team, Tarek was unfortunately diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2013. Unfortunately, his diagnosis jeopardized the couples’ careers since they had just signed with HGTV.
The couple decided to bank Tarek’s sperm and try in vitro fertilization before he started radiation treatment. Sadly, their quest for a second child ended in two failed IVF treatments. One treatment ended in a miscarriage after eight weeks, and another landed Christina on strict bed rest.
Christina was finally able to conceive in 2015 after sticking to strict guidelines. The couple welcomed their second child, son Brayden James El Moussa, on August 20, 2015. Just four weeks after her son’s birth, Christina returned to work.
Although Tarek suffered from cancer and had to undergo treatment, he continued filming “Flip or Flop.” Unfortunately, his health issues and the couple’s tight schedules started straining their marriage.
The couple started arguing a lot between work, health issues, and raising their kids, and things got heated. Tarek and Christina never really had time just to be together and enjoy each other’s company. When they were together, the couple mainly argued and fought.
To save their marriage, Tarek and Christina tried couple’s therapy. Although what they discussed at therapy is not known by anyone, it did not help.
Tarek El Moussa and Christina Haack’s Divorce
Things took a turn for the worse in the couple’s relationship on May 23, 2016. At around 3:45 p.m, the cops responded to a call of a “possibly suicidal male with a gun” at the couple’s residence.
After arriving at the scene, a witness told the police he saw Tarek “run out his back door” and “jump over his back fence” before walking towards a hiking trail. The witness also informed the police a crying Christina told him she saw Tarek put a handgun in his backpack before running outside.
Afterward, deputies called for helicopter assistance and located Tarek. They gave him verbal commands, which he obeyed till they escorted him back to his residence.
Six months after this incident, the couple announced their split. In their released statement, they referenced the unfortunate incident noting like many couples, they’ve had their challenges. The rest of the statement read:
“During the process, we are committed to our kids and being the best parents we can be. We will continue to work through this process civilly and cooperatively, and plan to continue our professional life together.”
After seven years of marriage and two amazing kids, Tarek and Christina went their separate ways. However, their separation did not affect their commitments to filming the “Flip or Flop” series.
Where Are They Now?
After her divorce from Tarek, Christina started dating a mutual friend and ‘Wheelers and Dealers” star Ant Anstead. They initially kept their relationship a secret but came out together after one year of dating.
On December 22, 2018, Ant and Christina exchanged marital vows. Just months later, on March 22, 2019, the couple announced they were expecting a baby. In September of the same year, they welcomed a baby boy.
Sadly, just a year after Ant and Christina announced they were separating. Afterward, Christina started dating Joshua Hall. While some relationships ended with the pandemic, theirs blossomed. The pair recently tied the knot, marking Christina’s third marriage.
For Tarek, he met “Selling Sunset” star Heather Rae Young on July 4, 2019. They met partying on boats docked next to each other at a Newport Beach, California.
They started dating that August before getting engaged in July 2020. Tarek and Heather would tie the knot on October 23, 2021, in an outdoor romantic ceremony near Santa Barbara, California.
