SNL star Colin Jost is set to host the 2024 White House Correspondents’ Dinner on the last Saturday night of April. Jost will be following in the footsteps of several other comedians who have headlined the event in the past. However, the dinner will occur this year in Washington, DC, and not New York.
Besides being a comedian on “Saturday Night Live,” Colin Jost has also been featured in several segments of “Weekend Update.” The White House Correspondents’ Association gave Jost the nod to be the entertainer for the 2024 press organization’s annual dinner. It is scheduled to take place on April 27.
The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is an annual event. It is usually attended by the president of the United States and the first lady. However, President Donald Trump broke the tradition by skipping the event while he was in office.
“Colin Jost knows how to make Saturday nights funny, and I am thrilled Colin will be live from the nation’s capital as the headline entertainer for this year’s White House Correspondents’ Dinner,” said Kelly O’Donnell, president of the White House Correspondents’ Association and NBC News senior White House correspondent.

Jost is one of America’s most prolific comedians. His career has spanned almost three decades. Over the years, he has bagged several awards, including five Writers Guild Awards and two Peabody Awards. Jost has also been nominated for the Emmy Awards 14 times.
“His sharp insights perfectly meet this remarkable time of divided politics and a presidential campaign careening toward a rematch,” O’Donnell added. “His smart brand of comedy and keen observation will turn up the heat on the national news media and across the political spectrum.”

The White House Correspondents’ Dinner is an annual event hosted by the White House Correspondents’ Association. It serves as a fundraiser for the organization and helps them offer scholarships to students who intend to grow a career in journalism.
Furthermore, several entertainers have been headliners for the event since it was introduced way back in 1921. The dinner is traditionally held on the evening of the last Saturday in April at the Washington Hilton. Some of the entertainers that have hosted the dinner include Trevor Noah, Stephen Colbert, Michelle Wolf, and many other A-listers.

When Michelle Wolf hosted the dinner, she sparked some controversy for a joke she made. The joke was about the then-White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders, and Wolf called her a liar in the joke. Following the public outrage, the White House Correspondents’ Association decided to pick a non-comedian headliner for the next dinner, and they chose presidential biographer Ron Chernow.
Also, while former president Donald Trump was in office, he refused to attend the dinners in 2017, 2018, and 2019. On April 5, 2019, he said he would not attend the dinner and called it “so boring, and so negative.” Later, on April 22, Trump also ordered a dinner boycott, and White House Cabinet Secretary Bill McGinley issued a directive for administration members not to attend. However, some members did.
