Three years after former Hollywood power couple Johnny Depp and Amber Heard finalized their divorce, Sharon Osbourne shared her take on their tumultuous relationship.
Television personality Sharon Osbourne is dishing on the romance between Hollywood icons, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard that ended in a rocky divorce.
The couple, who tied the knot in 2015 and split after only two years together, has been in and out of courthouses since separating. Amid their legal feud, crowned by Depp’s big loss of the libel lawsuit filed against The Sun publishers, Sharon Osbourne is lending her voice to the exes.
OSBOURNE DISHES ON THE TUMULTUOUS MARRIAGE
Like everyone familiar with the former couple, Osbourne followed updates on Depp’s divorce and the resulting legal feud. Their legal exchanges eventually landed Depp deeper in the sea of legal struggles in the guise of the “wife beater” trial.
Johnny Depp filed a libel lawsuit against the publishers of the British tabloid, The Sun, for wrongfully tagging him a “wife beater” in a 2018 article. Sadly, Depp lost the case in November 2020. The court declared him guilty of domestic violence, and as such, not wrongfully labeled by The Sun.
In the wake of the court’s ruling against Depp, the media personality, Sharon Osbourne, shared her take on the duo’s tumultuous relationship. Osbourne, who has a similarly turbulent past with her husband, Ozzy noted that the two parties had faults in the outcome of their relationship.
Going further, the 68-year-old pointed out that Amber Heard was no saint when it came to the violence in their vulnerable relationship. Instead, “they were both as bad as each other,” and “she gave him as good as she got.”
Sharon Osbourne then compared the situation to her once volatile relationship with Ozzy. She insisted alcohol played a part in the abuse incident and that Heard, like her, at no point cowered in a corner without retaliating during each bout of violence.
HEARD AND DEPP’S RELATIONSHIP HISTORY
Although plagued with legal battles and heated allegations, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard’s relationship was not always a minefield. The couple once shared a love that seemed bigger than life while it lasted.
Their love story kicked off with their first meeting on the set of “The Rum Diary, in 2009. However, their romance did not immediately commence as they were each in a relationship with other partners.
While Johnny Depp was dating his then-girlfriend of fourteen years, and mother of his two children, Vanesa Paradis, Heard was in a relationship with artist Tasya van Ree. They called it quits with their respective partners in 2012 and began dating that same year.
THEIR ENGAGEMENT AND MARRIAGE
Two years into their relationship, Johnny Depp and Amber Heard became engaged. The two tied the knot in February 2015, in a private civil ceremony held at their Los Angeles home.
The exes spent two years together without welcoming any children. However, they had two Yorkshire Terriers, which notably landed them in a legal case in 2015 after failing to declare the dogs at the border, thereby violating Australia’s biosecurity laws. The duo apologized for the incident.
HEARD AND DEPP’S DIVORCE
Johnny Depp’s marriage to Amber Heard hit a rough patch in 2016, after the actress filed for a divorce, alleging physical abuse. Additionally, she obtained a temporary restraining order against the “Fantastic Beasts” star.
Heard noted that while she was Johnny Depp’s wife, she endured severe violent treatment from him. He perpetrated those violent acts, usually while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The actor denied the accusations of abuse, alleging Heard was simply trying to secure a premature financial resolution. In August 2016, the exes reached a $7 million out-of-court settlement after Heard withdrew her request for a restraining order. They later released a joint statement, affirming none of the involved parties “made false allegations for financial gain.”
The statement also noted that neither had an intent to inflict physical or emotional harm. After receiving her $7 million divorce settlement, Heard donated it to charity. The pair finalized their divorce in 2017.
THEIR LEGAL BATTLE
Following the settlement, one would think they left the tumultuous past behind. However, that was far from the case.
Heard published an article in the Washington Post in 2018, where she referred to herself as a victim of abuse. Although the actress did not mention Depp’s name in the article, he sued her for defamation in 2019.
In response, the “Aquaman” star attempted to dismiss the $50 million lawsuit by listing at least twelve instances of abuse perpetrated against her during their marriage.
Depp, in turn, claimed the actress physically abused him, not the other way round. He released documents and recordings to back the claims, which Heard has since denied.
Amber Heard filed a countersuit against her former husband in August 2020. She accused him of organizing a harassment campaign on Twitter. She also blamed him for riling online petitions aimed at getting her fired from her role on “L’Oreal” and “Aquaman.”
As they go back and forth in their legal feud, one thing remains certainꟷ their one-time love story is far behind them.
