Police in Missouri rescued a baby and toddler who were left in the woods by a suspect who was believed to be fleeing from law enforcement. Disturbing video footage depicts Jackson County Sheriff’s Office deputies discovering the two children in the dense Jacksonville forest on February 16th. The incident stemmed from a Feb. 7 domestic violence call, according to the sheriff’s office.
When deputies arrived, Ryan Trompeter, 24, The suspect, fled the scene at a high rate of speed with two children, a 6-year-old and a toddler. He faces a laundry list of charges, including child neglect, assault, robbery, theft, harassment, and reckless endangerment.
On February 16, the sheriff’s office received reports that the suspect, “Trompeter was hiding in a wooded area with the kidnapped children. Deputies went to the scene, where they located Trompeter’s vehicle.
Body camera footage shows deputies cautiously heading towards the deserted vehicle with guns drawn, yelling at anyone inside to show themselves. The children’s cries can also be heard coming from inside the car.

On the live webcam footage, one of the officers can be heard saying, “I can hear kids crying.” The video shows that the video shows that the deputies take the children out ofhe car and try to comfort them One deputy gives the older child a juice box. Another could be heard saying, “And he abandoned a couple of kids? This is unreal, Man.”
According to the report, the children were taken to a local hospital for medical attention and are now under the care of the Department of Human Services. Investigation revealed that the children had been left in the car for up to two hours. Deputies also found substances believed to be drugs like fentanyl and methamphetamines in the car with the children. Trompeter remains at large, evading authorities, and anyone with information on where he could be or sights of him is urged to contact ECSO Dispatch.
