Skylene Montgomery is perhaps best known for marrying Sean Payton, a retired American football coach and player.
While it is not uncommon for celebs like Sean to fall in love, what makes his relationship unique with Montgomery is the decades-long age gap between them.
It has generated curiosity about what they share and why it even exists in the first place. However, as far as the couple is concerned, they couldn’t ask for better partners, and, years into the union, they are still going strong.
Meet Sean Payton’s Wife, Skylene Montgomery
Although she is most famous as Sean Payton’s wife, Skylene Montgomery is a woman who wears many hats. Like every other person, her journey started when she was born on December 4, 1984, to Skylar and Darlene Montgomery.
Her father is reportedly a well-known businessman who co-owns The Overhead Door Company, a dealer of garage doors. He and his wife tried their best to enroll Skylene in ballet. However, it never stuck.
Skylene was a tomboy, and the ballet was much too feminine for her. She preferred playing sports and kept her hair in a bowl cut. She said in an interview, “I had a bowl-cut haircut and was always that kid in messy baggy shorts and a Nike tee who played baseball.”
Her interest in sports was also not limited to baseball. She excelled in softball and volleyball as well. So, it’s not shocking that she became a volleyball coach for the Bayou Sports’ Club team.
Skylene’s tomboy phase lasted until her mid-teens when she discovered pageantry. She participated in the Miss Teen West Virginia pageant show and emerged as the runner-up.
She attended Parkersburg South High School and went to Marshall University, where she graduated with a degree in Exercise Physiology. Skylene finished her course in 2007 and later enrolled at West Virginia University for a nursing course. In 2013, she moved to New Orleans to work as a gastrointestinal nurse in the Intensive Care Unit at Ochsner Medical Centre.
She started studying to become a nurse practitioner and dedicated more time to the Sean Payton Pay It Forward Foundation in 2019. In May 2022, she obtained her advanced nursing degree from Loyola University.
Skylene Montgomery Did Not See the Proposal Coming
Skylene Montgomery met Sean Payton in 2014 at an NFL game between the Panthers and the Saints. Back then, she worked as a nurse in North Carolina, and Sean was the Saints’ head coach.
The pair ultimately fell in love, and Sean started planning marriage. The engagement was a romantic gesture he kept hidden from Skylene until the last minute, but her parents knew.
Sean ensured he had Skylene’s parent’s go-ahead before he asked her to marry him. The proposal happened at Longway Tavern in 2019, and their loved ones surrounded them.
He went on one knee while County singer Heidi Newfield performed her song “Johnny and June.” Skylene was blindsided by it all, but her answer was a resounding yes. The monumental moment was also witnessed by Sean’s children, Meghan and Connor. He shares them with his ex-wife Beth Shuey.
Sean Payton and Skylene Montgomery’s Wedding
Sean and Skylene officially tied the knot in Los Cabos, Mexico, in June 2021. The ceremony was held at the fancy One&Only Palmilla five-star resort in Cabo San Juan, Mexico. Never mind that it costs $1,700 per night.
The couple was clad in all-white attires for the occasion, and Sean added a little twist by rocking his white Jordan 1s. He went viral for the decision.
Sean and his wife now mainly reside in their Uptown Greek Revival home, which they moved to in 2019. They share no kids yet and have not mentioned any plan to have their own kids. As such, they enjoy a simple life with their dogs, a “Sheepadoodle” named Frannie Grace and a “Goldendoodle” named Murphy.
The couple still seem very much in love and expect to be together for the rest of their lives. Like Harry Styles, who dated a woman a decade older than himself, Skylene doesn’t care about Sean’s age. After all, love has nothing to do with numbers.
