Shortly after Trump’s guilty verdict was announced, a popular New York columnist’s sister has reaffirmed her intention for the upcoming presidential election. The columnist wrote an article detailing how her siblings are backing the Republican presidential candidate.
On Saturday, June 1, Maureen Dowd, a New York Times columnist, wrote a column two days after Trump was found guilty in a Hush money trial. Dowd said after the trial ended, she called her sibling to discuss their thoughts on the proceedings. According to Dowd, as both her siblings are Republicans, they had anticipated a Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley victory.
After the guilty verdict, Dowd asked her Republican siblings if Trump’s conviction was their final straw. However, she was shocked when her sister said the conviction only served to strengthen her resolve. According to Dowd, her sister admitted to not wanting to vote for Trump initially, but now she will. She claimed that the whole trial looked like a predetermined show.
Dow’s claimed that her sister seemed to have brought into Trump’s idea that his legal woes were politically motivated. Dowb’s sister claimed that Democrats were out to get Trump, treating him like they would a martyr.

In the published column, her sister seemed to have told her about a dream she had that was making her unable to sleep. In the dream, Dowd’s sister claimed to have been sentenced to prison by what she described as a sham trial.
She was worried about what would happen if she got arrested. She said that given the death of her father and two of her brothers, she wondered who would come through for her.
The column was published two days after Trump’s guilty verdict was announced on Thursday, May 30, 2024. Trump has been under trial in New York following a hush money scandal. Trump’s ex-lawyer, Michael Cohen, paid $130,000 to Stormy Daniels to keep their 2006 affair secret in 2016.

When Trump refunded Cohen, he classified the payment as a legal expense, a falsification, which was a felony charge. A jury found Trump guilty on all 34 counts of business record falsification.
Her sister had expressed her outrage, claiming they intended to imprison Trump 3 days before his convention. Dowd’s sister had questioned her on how they intended to that with the presence of his Secret Service protection details.

She joked if they intended to send Trump to a prison cell with his four Secret Service agents. Many of the former president’s political friends have voiced fury following the guilty decision, and Dowd’s sister’s worries are in line with their fears.
Four days before to the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, on July 11, 2024, Judge Juan Merchan scheduled Trump’s sentence. Trump’s legal group has promised to file an appeal.
