Matt Smith’s Eyebrows: Does He Have a Condition or Disease?

Matt Smith’s eyebrows have inspired various fan theories, memes, and concerns for years. Does the actor have a medical condition?

One might recognize Matt Smith from his “Doctor Who” days or, more recently, in the Game of Thrones spinoff, “House of the Dragon.”

Who Is Matt Smith?

Matthew “Matt” Robert Smith is a famous English actor born on October 28, 1982, in Northampton, Northamptonshire. He is the son of Lynne and David Smith and comes from a family of four. His only sibling, Laura Jayne, is popularly known as one of the dancers featured in the music video for Eric Prydz’s 2004 song “Call on Me.”

Matt attended Northampton School for Boys, where he initially played football for the youth teams of famous football clubs like Northampton Town, Nottingham Forest, and Leicester City. Like his grandfather before him, he was great at the sport and became the Leicester City youth team captain. Sadly, Matt suffered a severe back injury and could not continue his football career.

His drama teacher at that time saw something special in Matt and introduced him to acting. The teacher signed Matt up without his consent and encouraged him to participate after he missed the first two sessions. His first role was as the tenth juror in an adaptation of “Twelve Angry Men.” He participated in the play, and his persistent teacher eventually persuaded him to join the National Youth Theatre in London.

After leaving school, Matt studied Drama and Creative Writing at the University of East Anglia, graduating in 2005. While still with the National Youth Theatre, he caught the attention of an agent and got his first professional jobs, “Fresh Kills” and “On the Shore of the Wide World.”

He also got his first TV role as Jim Taylor in the BBC adaptations of the Sally Lockhart quartet books “The Ruby in the Smoke” and “The Shadow in the North.” Matt went on to have a career to envy and is now one of the most popular and sought-after English actors alive.

What Happened to Matt Smith’s Eyebrows?

The “Doctor Who” actor’s eyebrows have been a topic of conversation among fans for a long time now. People have devised various theories, speculations, and even diagnoses for the actor.

Some suggest that he may have madarosis, which causes hair loss in the eyebrows and eyelashes. Others believe he has trichotillomania, a condition that involves the recurrent, irresistible urge to pull out areas of the body.

These theories and speculations are not entirely baseless, as it does seem like the actor’s brows have disappeared over time. His brows can be seen quite clearly in his early movies, but his most recent films and appearances have faded completely, raising some concerns among fans.

However, there is no cause for alarm concerning the actor’s health. He has no reported medical condition, and his eyebrows are excellent. The reason why they seem to have disappeared is simply because his eyebrows became lighter over time.

While the reason for the color change is unknown, it doesn’t seem to have posed any significant threats to his health. Despite all speculations, his eyebrows have not hindered his acting prowess. They’ve become a part of his signature look, making him instantly recognizable.
