President Joe Biden assuaged concerns about his candidacy and slammed his 2024 opponent, former President Donald Trump, at the annual White House Correspondents’ Dinner on Saturday night.

Speaking to politicians and reporters at a luxury Washington hotel, the 81-year-old commander-in-chief alluded to physical stumbles in his past.

“I told him, ‘Don’t worry, it’s like riding a bike,” he said at one point, recounting a conversation with first lady Jill Biden about his Saturday speech. “She said, ‘That’s what worries me.”

Joe Biden also mentioned age, which is expected to be a deciding issue in this year’s presidential race—but he would beat Trump, 77, not himself. “Of course, the 2024 election is in full swing, and yes, age is an issue.

I’m an adult facing a 6-year-old child,” Biden joked. “Well, I feel fine. I feel great.” Age is the only thing we have in common.

My vice president supports me, the President added, referring to former Vice President Mike Pence’s refusal to support his former boss after January 6.

Biden also addressed Trump’s legal troubles, including his recent appearance in a New York court over secret payments to adult film actress Stormy Daniels to cover up an allegation of adultery – and, according to prosecutors, to hide the scandal from voters before the vote.

Trump denied wrongdoing in the 2016 election. “It’s been a long time since the State of the Union. But Donald has had a rough few days lately. You can call it ‘stormy weather,'” Biden said.

He, at times, used his speech to make a serious point, denouncing Trump’s criticism of the press as “the enemy of the people” and promising to bring home Americans detained abroad water, called Paul Whelan and Wall Street Journal reporter Evan.

The President concluded by calling on the media to focus on the “stakes” of the 2024 election, portraying Trump as a threat to democracy – a frequent attack that Trump has sought to reverse.

“Let us look past the horse-race numbers, the pitfalls and distractions, the sideshows that have dominated and sensationalized our politics, and focus on what is at stake.

The stakes couldn’t be higher,” Biden said. “I have my role to play, but with all due respect, so do you.”

For his part, Trump fired back on social media, calling the dinner — which he skipped while in office, skipping the usual speech the President gives — “really bad” and Biden is an “absolute disaster.”

“There’s nothing worse than that!” he wrote.
