Actress and singer, Jennifer Lopez, has sustained an awe-inspiring relationship with her boo, Alex Rodriguez, for about three years. However, their first encounter dates back to over a decade ago.
Jennifer Lopez and her partner of three years, Alex Rodriguez, can best be described as a pair of fated lovers. From their first meeting over fifteen years ago to a fairy tale reconnection twelve years later, the two have proven to be an enviable couple best suited for each other.
Their connection has grown stronger over the years, having each survived failed marriages, a swift rise to fame, and the daunting task of dealing with the spotlights. Since the onset of Jennifer Lopez’s relationship with the former baseball star, they have easily become the cynosure of all eyes, as their love continues to progress in the full gaze of the public.
THEIR FIRST MEETING
Years before Jennifer Lopez ever imagined becoming Alex Rodriguez’s fiancee, the actress was married, first to Ojani Noa, and then to Marc Anthony.
Jennifer Lopez’s husband at the time, Marc Anthony, had been in her life for barely a year when the two attended a baseball game in Queens in 2005. She had the honor of shaking hands with the then-New-York Yankee, Rodriguez. Of their first meeting, J’Lo said:
“We shook hands, and it was this weird electricity for like three seconds. Three to five seconds of looking at somebody right in their eyes and getting stuck.”
Unfortunately, the electricity was all there was to the meeting at the time. Aside from J’Lo’s marriage to Marc Anthony being in between them, Rodriguez was at the time married to Cynthia Scurtis.
Rodriguez once opened up about an earlier run-in with the singer in the ‘90s, where he got a signed photo of her. The star-struck budding baseball layer admittedly cherished the picture so much so that he kept it to date.
A RELATIONSHIP FATED IN HEAVEN; ANOTHER ENCOUNTER
It took the lovebirds twelve years to run into each other again. In February 2017, the two met at a restaurant during lunch, and this time, they were both divorcees. J.Lo was the first to spot the baseball star and made her move to initiate a conversation. That little tap on his shoulder, admittedly gave him the nerves to ask her to dinner.
After a few dates, the duo realized they had so much more in common other than the fame. During a 2017 interview, Rodriguez revealed that discovering certain shared attributes contributed to their instant connection. They realized they were both Leos, with their birthdays only three days apart, both Latinos, and also from New York. In the months that followed, they became an inseparable pair.
A TIMELINE OF THEIR RELATIONSHIP
The duo took their relationship public in April 2017, posting their first photo as a couple on the gram. By May, they made their red carpet debut. To further drive home their couple status, Lopez blew A-Rod a kiss right across the table, making for an enviable sight.
They took their first trip together in June 2017, gracing Paris, the City of Love. Jennifer Lopez’s relationship with A-Rod grew to stronger heights when Vanity Fair featured them on the cover page of their October 2017 issue.
One of their biggest milestones as a couple came in December 2017 when the pair summoned the courage to spend their first holiday season with the kids. J.Lo’s twins, Max and Emme, and as well as A-Rod’s kids, Natasha and Ella Alexander, spent the Christmas celebration as a blended family.
In February 2018, they marked their first valentine’s day together with heartfelt social media posts. They also celebrated their first anniversary as a couple that same month. On the big day, J.Lo dedicated a stage performance of her song, “Us,” to her prince charming.
For their second anniversary, the two got everyone green with envy with sweet social media tributes. They got engaged a month later and have remained the ideal power couple ever since.
THE BIG ENGAGEMENT
The New York Yankee officially became Jennifer Lopez’s Fiance on March 9, 2019, with a big proposal in the Bahamas. The pair were on a romantic getaway when Rodriguez popped the big question. He later took to Instagram to announce to the world that “she said yes!”
The engagement ring was a 15-carat diamond worth an estimated 1.4 dollar, according to US Weekly. Their engagement attracted a thumbs up from Michelle and Barack Obama. The Obamas reportedly sent the couple a special hand-written congratulatory note.
Following the news of their engagement, many anticipated wedding bells for a while. J.Lo, however, eased the public anticipation during an interview in May 2019, where she revealed she was in no rush to tie the knot.
With the kids embracing each other as a blended family, and the Lopez-Rodriguez pair more in love than ever, a wedding just might be around the corner.
