Kandi Burruss stunned guests at her wedding to husband Todd Tucker when she emerged donning a custom Reco Chapple wedding dress which cost a whopping $20,000.
The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Kandi Burruss was in South Africa filming the fourth season of the reality series when she met Todd Tucker, a line producer on the show.
Tucker was attracted to Burruss because she seemed humble, he loved her smile, and she had a great butt.
Tucker was skeptical about approaching her because it was forbidden for producers to start romantic relationships with the show’s stars.
The pair kept their relationship a secret at first, but in 2011 they decided to make it official. Tucker could not continue working on the show, so he resigned. However, he was called back by the production company to work on a different show.
On January 15, 2013, Burruss and Tucker announced their engagement. The latter had proposed in January during the New Year’s celebration at the pair’s home in Atlanta.
Tucker got down on one knee to propose with a two-carat diamond ring which was the exact ring Burruss wanted.
She had seen the ring during a Housewives trip so the Producer had it shipped from Las Vegas. He held the ring for about three to four months before he finally decided to pop the question.
The romantic proposal went down in the presence of Burruss’ family and friends, including her fellow RHOA co-star Phaedra Parks.
An emotional Burruss struggled to hold back tears but however excited nonetheless. Also, she and Tucker had exchanged ideas about their wedding would be.
Tucker And Burruss’ “Coming to America” Themed Wedding
Kandi Burruss and Todd Tucker had all eyes on them during their April 4, 2014, wedding, held at the Le Fais Do-Do event facility in Atlanta.
Burruss stunned guests when she emerged donning a $20 000 custom Reco Chapple gown featuring a 12-foot train.
Her wedding dress featured a nude-colored bodysuit underlay covered in glittering diamatés. It led into a sizable skirt and mid-thigh vast train, which was a mixture of white and caramel ostrich feathers.
According to the designer, the wedding dress’s power mesh nude illusion material came from New York. The Ostrich feathers were flown from China and the Swarovski crystals from India.
Burruss completed her looks with a glitzy tiara custom made by Kelvin Russell adorning her head. Her shoe, a $1,195 Christian Louboutin Body Strass crystal-studded transparent stilettos.
She wore diamond drop earrings, a chunky diamond choker-style necklace, carried a bouquet of cream-colored roses and cascading white orchids.
Tucker Looked Stylish
The groom, on the other hand, showed up in a white tuxedo jacket featuring black lapels and pocket trim with a crisp white shirt and matching bow tie.
Tucker completed his looks with black dress pants and shoes, a matching orchid buttonhole, and neatly groomed facial hair.
Speaking after the event, Burruss said the day was like a fairy tale and one of the best days of her life.
Her bridesmaids consisted of celebrities like Tameka ‘Tiny’ Harris, singer Fantasia Barrino, Love, Hip Hop Atalanta’s Rasheeda Frost, and her RHOA co-stars Phaedra Parks and Joyce Dallas.
Guests wore hint of purple and, following the “Coming to America” theme, saw tigers in cages as they walked in.
They also dined on a delicious feast of shrimp, steak, and stuffed crab. There were also cupcakes and an open bar.
Becoming Parents
Before their wedding, Burruss and Tucker were already parents to two girls, Kaela and Riley, from their previous relationships. On January 16, 2016, they expanded the family with the birth of their son Ace Wells Tucker.
On September 26, 2019, the couple announced they were expecting another child via surrogate. A month later, Burruss revealed that their surrogate was actually pregnant with twins but sadly lost one of the embryos.
She also confessed that the whole surrogacy experience was a bittersweet one for her. On one hand, she was excited about becoming a mum again, but it was weird that someone else was carrying her baby.
Burruss explained not getting excited about her baby’s first kick, her baby bump showing, or her boobs filling up with milk made her feel a bit guilty, but it was a joyous and exciting experience.
Tucker’s Feud With Burruss’ Mom
Although Tucker looked very much in love with Burruss, the producer did not do enough to convince her mother, Joyce. The latter called him an opportunist and accused him of cheating on her daughter after their engagement with Burruss’ friend Carmon.
Joyce also accused Tucker of being after her daughter’s money, so she insisted he sign a prenuptial agreement before their marriage, but he refused.
After their marriage, Joyce admitted that only time would tell if Tucker would get her blessing, but if Burruss was happy, she needed to be happy for her daughter.
