Illinois NAACP President Suspended for Branding Migrants “Rapists and Savages”

Teresa Haley is the head of the Illinois chapter of the NAACP. She is the last soul one would expect to utter the statements she did last year over a Zoom call.

According to reports, during the Zoom call, Haley called the more than 25,000 new migrants “savages” and “rapists.” The news quickly went viral on the internet and even caused Haley to apologize.

Unfortunately, her apology came a little too late on December 14, 2023. That was one day after the NAACP put her on suspension.

The agency announced on December 15. This is nearly two months after Haley went off in a recorded call with state leaders. And her tirade seemingly saw her channeling a 2016-era Donald Trump.

“These immigrants who come over here, they’ve been raping people, they’ve been breaking into homes, they’re like savages as well,” she said.

“They don’t speak the language, and they look at us like we’re crazy,” she continues before shifting attention to communities she believes are being ignored.

“Black people have been on the streets forever and ever,” Haley says at some point.

“And nobody cares,” she adds, highlighting how the city allegedly sees residents of its famously embattled South and West sides as “drug addicts” or vagrants with “mental health issues.”

The rant eventually earned scrutiny from her state’s governor, Democrat JB Pritzker. He promptly called the remarks “reprehensible” and “extraordinarily inappropriate” before ordering Haley to apologize.

Her comments have had far-reaching effects, especially on those she influences. It has led to debates as some natives stand up to echo her sentiments. Meanwhile, it is not the first time Haley has said something similar.

Just months before, she expressed resentment toward the privileges the ‘busloads’ of migrants “dumped” in the city are getting. The onslaught continues, and citizens can expect to see 22 full buses arrive daily.

Haley has previously tagged a rising star in the NAACP, but her reputation has taken a big hit due to her statements. She even believes that migrants were benefitting at the expense of black people.

The 58-year-old is currently on leave, but it may cost her more. She was to appear at a news conference in Springfield on December 16, 2023, but the speech never happened as it followed her now-confirmed suspension.

While officials decide on what to do with her, experts predict her efforts to secure a seat on its national board are now likely in jeopardy. Earlier this month, before issuing her apology, Haley reportedly told a reporter in a phone call while she was on vacation in Dubai that the video was fake and created with artificial intelligence.

“With AI, anything is possible,” the civil rights leader reportedly said.

Since she has apologized, it would seem that play is out the window. Or is it?
