House Republicans are intensifying their confrontation with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis, whose handling of a Georgia elections case involving former President Donald Trump has sparked controversy.
Judiciary Committee Chair Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) issued a subpoena on Friday demanding that Willis provide records, including documents and communications, related to the receipt and use of federal funding since September 1, 2020.
This move marks the latest development in a broader House GOP investigation into whether Willis utilized federal funds as part of her inquiry into Trump. The former president was indicted last year on racketeering charges for his alleged attempts to overturn Georgia’s 2020 election results, an allegation he vehemently denies.
House Republicans have aggressively scrutinized Willis’s actions, leveraging their majority to delve into Trump’s legal battles, including the Georgia investigation. Jordan’s subpoena comes after Willis’s office reportedly failed to comply voluntarily with two previous requests for information. However, Willis has accused Jordan of abusing his authority to obstruct and interfere with a legitimate criminal prosecution in Georgia.

In his letter accompanying the subpoena, Jordan emphasized the necessity of obtaining documents amid recently disclosed whistleblower allegations. These allegations surfaced after the conservative Washington Free Beacon published audio recordings of a former employee from Willis’s office, claiming she faced retaliation after cautioning a campaign aide against the improper use of federal grant funding.
Jordan expressed concern that the former employee was terminated less than two months after raising concerns, suggesting potential mismanagement of federal funds within Willis’s office. He accused Willis of concealing possible unlawful use of federal funds and failing to supervise their expenditure appropriately.

However, Willis vehemently denied these allegations, labeling them false and baseless. She emphasized the effectiveness of her office’s grant programs and asserted their compliance with Department of Justice requirements. Despite the mounting pressure, Willis remains confident in the integrity of her office’s operations and cooperation with federal authorities.
The subpoena adds to Willis’s mounting challenges as she faces heightened scrutiny over allegations of personal misconduct. Recent accusations from a lawyer representing a co-defendant in the Trump case have alleged an extramarital affair between Willis and Nathan Wade, a key figure in the prosecution. These allegations also suggest improprieties regarding vacations funded by income earned from the Trump case.
Willis has until Friday to respond to these allegations, further complicating the already contentious legal battle surrounding Trump’s indictment. The ongoing clash between House Republicans and Willis underscores the deep political divisions surrounding the investigation into Trump’s actions, highlighting the broader implications of the case for both parties.
