Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton met with a wave of student protests during her recent visit to her alma mater, Wellesley College. The reason was that she was set to receive an honor: a college building named after her. However, the atmosphere became a bit tense as protesters started to target attendees of a women-led democracy summit, which Clinton was also a part of.
Local reports showed that some students handed out pamphlets around campus saying that Clinton was Wellesley’s “most beloved war criminal” and accused her of having “blood on her hands.” Despite all of this, the school administration did not condemn the protest.
In response to the demonstration, the Vice President and Dean of Students, Sheilah Shaw Horton, told the activists to keep to the demonstration policy and respect the Code of Student Conduct for the sake of their safety and the community.
“I encourage all who participate in activism to follow the demonstration policy and be mindful of our Code of Student Conduct so that you remain safe for yourself, and for our community,” Vice President and Dean of Students Sheilah Shaw Horton said in a statement.

This isn’t the first time Clinton has faced protests or even opposition during her visits to American universities. In February, protesters disrupted her appearance at Columbia University, calling her a “war criminal.”
The recent protest at Wellesley happened after Clinton appeared on the “Tonight Show” with Jimmy Fallon, where she made controversial remarks about the limited choices in American politics.
Fallon raised the issue of voters not being “upset” with having only former President Trump and President Biden as options. Clinton’s response was blunt: “Get over yourself. Those are the two choices.”

“Yeah! I love that,” Fallon reacted.
Clinton spoke about what she felt were the contrasting qualities of the candidates, saying that “One is old, and effective, and compassionate, has a heart and really cares about people. And one is old and has been charged with 91 felonies,”
She expressed frustration at the perceived difficulty in choosing between them, asserting that voters must grasp the significance of the election’s outcome.
The stakes, according to Clinton, are existential, impacting the very nature of the country and its democracy. She criticized those who overlook the implications, highlighting the clarity of Trump and his supporters’ intentions regarding the nation’s future.

“I don’t understand why this is even a hard choice, really. I don’t understand it,” Clinton continued. “But we have to go through the election and hopefully people will realize what’s at stake because it’s an existential question. What kind of country we’re gonna have, what kind of democracy we can have and people who blow that off are not paying attention because it’s not like Trump, his enablers, his empowerers, his allies are not telling us what they want to do. I mean, they’re pretty clear about what kind of country they want.”
