Lizzo always gives us something to talk about, but this time, she is sharing some great news. The singer and rapper excitedly announced massive progress in her weight-loss journey on Instagram. She reportedly lost 16% of her overall body fat. Here’s how she achieved it and why the weight drop means so much to her.
“I did it!” Lizzo wrote alongside photos she shared of her new body on Saturday, January 25, 2025. The photos showed her in front of a mirror as she admired the result of her weight-loss program. The rapper joyfully declared that she had dropped weight like never before.
“Today, when I stepped on my scale, I reached my weight release goal. I haven’t seen this number since 2014,” she announced, beaming with satisfaction. “Let this be a reminder you can do anything you put your mind to. Time for new goals!” she advised her followers.
The singer was too excited to stop at Instagram. She also took to TikTok to share the great news. In the video she shared on the site, which she took at the beginning of her “intentional weight loss journey,” she accepted that she wasn’t going to be “thin by any means.”
She also conceded that she will never leave the “morbidly obese” zone on the BMI zone. Lizzo, who has been subject to online ridicule for her size, stated that she wasn’t ever going to escape the mockery. But what she wasn’t going to do is give up trying.
She stated that she had a goal weight in mind. All she needed to be happy was to meet that target. Now, she has. She gave her testimony in a follow-up video where she declared, “I’m happy, I did it.”

How Did Lizzo Lose Weight?
So far, Lizzo has lost 10 points on the Body Mass Index (BMI). This is a remarkable change. The BMI is a screening tool and scale that estimates body fat by analyzing height and weight measurements. She has shared how she attained the feat. “Weight training and calorie deficit,” she disclosed in a September 20, 2024, Instagram post.
Lizzo, whose real name is Melissa Viviane Jefferson, has always been open about her health journey. She is a wellness enthusiast. However, she decided to focus on her weight throughout 2024.
The “Truth Hurts” singer stated in August 2024 that she was taking “a gap year & protecting my peace.” Lizzo has risen to become one of the most sought-after musicians in the industry. The Detroit-born entertainer has bagged numerous awards including four Grammy Awards.
She was also the first female rapper to bag the highly-desired Record of the Year gong. She did so in 2023, thanks to her top-rated 2022 track, “About Damn Time.” But despite her numerous successes, Lizzo was bothered by the mockery she faced for her weight.
In March 2024, she wrote, “I’m getting tired of putting up with being dragged by everyone in my life and on the internet.” She added on the Instagram post that she felt dejected by the unending taunts.
“All I want is to make music and make people happy and help the world be a little better than how I found it. But I’m starting to feel like the world doesn’t want me in it,” she lamented. “My character being picked apart by people who don’t know me and disrespecting my name. I didn’t sign up for this s***,” she further stated.
