Television personality Gayle King disclosed that the Duke of Sussex, Prince Harry spoke to his brother and father in the wake of his explosive Oprah interview.
Nearly two weeks after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey, tensions are already piling up within the royal family. Broadcast journalist and TV host, Gayle King gave an insight into the exact nature of such tensions. She shared:
“Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father too. The word I was given was that those conversations were not productive. But they are glad they have at least started a conversation.”
The 66-year-old revealed this while appearing on “CBS This Morning.” She went on to address the possibility that the royals were choosing to snub Markle, saying:
“The palace keeps saying they want to work it out privately. Yet, they believe these false stories are coming out that they are very disparaging against Meghan, still. No one in the family has talked to Meghan yet.
Gayle King went on to express how frustrating it must be for the prince Harry and Markle to watch their candid revelations turn into a racial conversation.
According to her, all the couple wanted to achieve by granting the interview was to make the royal family stop the British press from sharing inaccurate, racially-biased stories about the duchess.
The interview instead painted the royals as racists, an assertion which Prince William, Harry’s brother has since debunked. The royal family disclosed in an earlier statement, how shocking it was to hear such disturbing allegations from the Sussexes.
A source confirmed that Prince Harry and his wife’s Oprah interview only strained the trust between the royal brothers. The source added that Williams now refrained from having conversations with his brother for fear that whatever he said would end up plastered on American TV. However, King’s revelation affirmed that the Sussexes had no sordid intentions. She noted:
“I think it’s going to be hard to move forward. But they both want to move forward with this. And they both want healing in this family. At the end of the day, that is Harry’s family.”
Going further, the broadcast journalist shared her take on the royal fracas, explaining things could only move forward if the royal acknowledged there were issues. One way to do that was by having a productive conversation with the Sussexes, which was all the couple yearned for.
It appears the feud between Prince Harry and his brother began long before the Sussex royals granted the interview with Oprah Winfrey.
Back in 2019, months before the Sussexes’ royal exit and subsequent move to America, Harry confirmed speculations about an ongoing feud between him and Williams.
In an ITV documentary, the prince divulged that he and Williams were “on different paths at the moment.” He however added that he loved his brother dearly notwithstanding.
Almost two years down the line, the rift between the two princes seems far from reaching a closure, appearing instead to take a downward spiral.
