As the election date approaches, Trump’s legal woes become more publicized. In recent news, a former federal prosecutor accused Trump of assisting his political allies in violating his gag order.

Eric Lisann, a former prosecutor, suggests that senior Republican lawmakers could be ordered to court for acting as Trump’s spokespersons in New York. He mentioned that prosecutors and Judge Merchan wanted to know if Trump was responsible for their remarks. Merchan had placed a gag order on Trump, preventing him from criticizing jurors or possible witnesses in the case.

Trump has been charged with 34 counts of fraud concerning hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels. Payments using hush money are acceptable. However, the Manhattan DA alleges that Trump broke the law by mislabeling funds used to reimburse Cohen.

They further charged him with fabricating the company documents to hide another offense, breaking state election law. He entered a not-guilty plea, claiming the charges against him were not serious. The closing argument starts on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, and the jury is already deliberating.

The trial is aimed at proving that, before the 2016 general election, Trump paid or planned on paying Stormy Daniels and Karen McDougal to ensure his sexual relationships with them stayed hidden. However, he has always disputed having relationships with both of them.

Lisann, taking to X, wrote on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, that Trump’s failure to dispute the accusation that he ordered people to speak against the gag order violates the order.

Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama requested other Republicans on Tuesday, May 14, 2024, to support Trump by speaking out against the gag order.

On Monday, May 13, 2024, Tuberville, along with two Republican senators, J.D. Vance and Rick Scott, were present at the hush-money trial. They went on to deliver a harsh critique of it to the assembled media.

In a show of solidarity for Trump, prominent Republican party members Vivek Ramaswamy, Byron Donalds,  Cory Mills, and Doug Burgum were present at the trial.

According to an associate professor at the University of Surrey, Mark Shanahan, Trump’s allies can attack all parts of the trial that he cannot as a result of the restriction placed on him by Merchan.

He further added that the only way Trump’s allies can be stopped from speaking against the prosecution is if there is proof of him instructing them to do so.

In a smart move, Trump’s team has found a viable, although temporary, way to circumvent the gag order.
