Braylon Edwards, former Jets receiver and football legend who ended up going third overall in the 2005 NFL Draft made another save over the last weekend. The former NFL star rescued an 80-year-old man from an assault on Friday, March 1, 2024, inside a locker room.
Police are lauding Edwards after he stepped into a fight that resulted in the arrest of a 25-year-old man. According to police records, the 25-year-old was allegedly beating up the older man in Farmington Hills, Michigan. While speaking to officials, Edwards explained the scenario as one he quickly jumped into action.
The former Jets Receiver stopped by the YMCA for a workout and said he heard an argument. He noted that it started about four rows behind him over music playing too loudly. “I walk into the locker room after work, and basically, I hear rows behind me arguing about music,” the former NFL star explains.
“And how it was being played too loud.” Braylon Edwards continued, “So, I’m not paying attention, and I was just minding my business.” However, he noted that the noise grew louder, and he heard other sounds. “The noise escalates, and then you can hear some pushing and shoving,” he added.

“So you know what fighting sounds like, but once I hear a thud, that’s when I got up and turned around.” Officials told WDIV-TV that the 25-year-old male beat the 80-year-old before Braylon Edwards entered the situation. “And then I see the guy, and I think he’s reaching for a phone underneath the victim,” Edwards added.
“He grabs the back of the victim’s head by the hair, and he is about to slam it down on the counter.” However, Edwards said he stepped into the situation, stating, “I grabbed him and subdued him.” Due to Edwards’ timely save, officials said the man suffered minor injuries.

“I didn’t know it was that serious,” Edwards said. “I mean, the victim probably had a serious concussion by nature.” However, Edwards noted that he realized what he had done after the detective told him what could have happened if he didn’t step in. “But at the end of the day, that’s what you do,” Braylon Edwards said.
According to police records, the assailant fled the YMCA on foot. However, authorities eventually arrested him, and he remains in custody. Edwards is an All-American and 2004 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year. He still owns the Wolverines receiving yards record with 3,613 over his four-year career.
