Who Is Daniel Depp? 

Daniel Depp is one of Johnny Depp’s siblings. The multi-talented individual was born on November 14, 1953, in Owensboro, Kentucky, USA. He is the first of four children associated with the Depp family. Johnny is best known among them because of his acting career and scandals.

Daniel was raised in Florida, where he attended five high schools before studying Classics at the University of Kentucky. He kept changing high schools because his family moved a lot.

Daniel once said: “I was born in eastern Kentucky in the mountains – a real Truman Capote Appalachian childhood. Then my mom remarried, and we lived in Owensboro for a while and Lexington.”

After he graduated from college, Daniel headed to California to pursue writing as a career. However, his career did not immediately take off. He spent ten years teaching middle school students English literature and history in San Jose, California. 

Then he founded the Scaramanga Bros company, a production business, with his brother Johnny. During this time, Daniel co-wrote the screenplay for “The Brave,” a film that featured his brother.

In 1997, the film got nominated for the Palm d’Or at Cannes. The very first book Daniel authored was titled “Loser Town.” Like many of his books, the novel is set in Los Angeles and tells the story of a former stuntman turned private investigator named David Spandau.

The book was his first significant success, published in 1990. It was well-received by critics and readers alike, and it set Daniel up as a talented and promising talent in literature.

Since then, he has penned other novels, including “Devil’s Dance” and “Babylon Nights.” His books are well known for their vivid descriptions, complex characters and gripping plots. Many critics have praised him for his ability to capture the essence of the American West. 

Daniel Depp’s Family 

Daniel Depp’s mother is Betty Sue Palmer, while his father is John Christopher Depp. Christopher Depp adopted him after he got married to Betty Sue Palmer. As such, he and Johnny only share a mother.

After leaving her former husband, Palmer gave birth to Daniel before she ran into John Christopher Depp. She battled a long illness and passed away on May 20, 2016. She was 81 years old at the time of her demise. 

Daniel Depp is the oldest of the Depp family kids, and he has three other siblings, including the famous Johnny Depp. As for his immediate family, Daniel is happily married to Mahnaz Shams. They tied the knot on July 9, 1979. He currently manages a bookstore in California, where he resides with Shams.

According to different sources, the oldest Depp is estimated to be worth between $1 million to $5 million. The exact numbers are unknown, but most of all, that comes from his job as a writer.

The relationship between the two brothers is solid and will most likely remain strong until one of them passes. They have always supported each other. When Daniel wanted to publish his first book, he feared people would think it was about his brother, but when he shared his fear with Johnny, the actor was supportive.

Johnny told him not to worry about it and pushed him to go and do it. When the bet paid off, Johnny said: “To say that I am proud is a monumental understatement. I’ve been proud for a long, long time, having been well aware of my brother’s great talent for the majority of my life.”

Johnny Depp added that he was happy Daniel’s work was getting recognition, but it did not surprise him as he knew his brother was great at what he did.
