Ellen Page Regrets Working With Woody Allen; Six Interesting Facts About the Veteran Director

Five Years after making the movie “To Rome With Love” together, Ellen Page declared she regrets working with Woody Allen. 

Woody Allen is a veteran Hollywood director who rose to prominence during the 1960s when he started writing plays and producing them. The director, born in Brooklyn, New York, to Jewish parents, started as a comedian submitting quips to newspaper magazines while still at New York University. However, Allen did not complete his degree, and he dropped out due to poor grades and inconsistent attendance.

In 1956 he started writing for television before joining the writing staff of comedian Sid Caesar. Four years later, he left to write for the “Garry Moore Show” and started performing stand-up. His stand-up performance at clubs in Greenwich Village led to him guest starring on television and comedy albums. In 1965 he wrote the screenplay for the movie “What’s New Pussycat?” and appeared in the movie. 

A year later, he made his first film, “What’s Up, Tiger Lily?” and then, in 1967, starred as James Bond’s nephew in “Casino Royale.”Allen’s work started gaining recognition during the late 1960s, and after making the movie “Take the Money and Run” in 1969 bagged a three-movie deal with United Artists Corporation. Before making any film for United Artists Corporation, Allen appeared in the romantic comedy “Play It Again, Sam,” which he also wrote.

The 1970s

 In 1971, he made his first movie for the Corporation titled “Bananas,” followed by “Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex” a year later.

The movie “Sleeper” in 1973 represented his third movie for United Artists Corporation, but Allen continued working with them for the rest of the decade. Their partnership proved successful, and Allen made a landmark achievement when his 1977 movie “Annie Hall” won three Academy Awards.

Allen was awarded a plaque for Best Picture while lead actress Keaton won for best actress. Allen and his collaborator Marshall Brickman also won for best screenplay. This proved to be a turning point in Allen’s life, and he would go on to produce many iconic films and launch the careers of multiple Actors and Actresses who worked with him. 

Sexual Allegations and Career Decline

During the early 1990s, Woody Allen was at the height of his career and in a relationship with actress Mia Farrow. However, things turned sour between them in 1992 when Farrow found nude pictures of her adopted daughter in Allen’s house.

The filmmaker confessed to an affair between him and Farrow’s adopted daughter Soon-Yi Previn. A couple of months later, things got worse for Allen when another of Farrow’s adopted daughters, Dylan, accused the filmmaker of sexual abuse.

Allen vehemently denied this and accused Farrow of pitting the child against him. Various agencies investigated the molestation case but cleared Allen of any wrongdoing.

Due to this controversy, Allen’s career suffered greatly, and his popularity and influence among critics and fans diminished. He struggled to get positive press around his movies due to his damaged reputation.

Ellen Page Regrets Making A Movie Woody Allen

Hollywood star Ellen Page was an upcoming actress when she worked with Allen in the movie “To Rome With Love” in 2012. Although sexual abuse allegations had hampered the filmmaker’s career, he was slowly gaining lost momentum, and his reputation for launching the career of actors remained. 

Five years after the movie’s release, Page took to her Facebook page to explain making a movie with Allen was the biggest regret of her career. According to the Actress, she felt ashamed to have worked with him, but she was an upcoming act at the time and was under pressure to accept the opportunity. Page declared:

“Ultimately, however, it is my choice what films I decide to do, and I made the wrong choice. I made an awful mistake.”

Woody Allen and Jeffrey Epstein Were Friends 

Allen and Epstein were both big Hollywood celebrities until their career suffered due to allegations of sexual abuse. Although investigators cleared Allen of any wrongdoing, Epstein was convicted of soliciting a minor for prostitution.

The pair are both New York natives, and they lived beside each other on Manhattan’s Upper East Side for years, where they became longtime friends.

In 2018 media outlets spotted Allen and Epstein walking and joking around Manhattan. Epstein had his arms around the filmmaker as they strolled around while Allen’s wife Soon-Yi accompanied them.

The pair remained friends until Epstein committed suicide on August 10, 2019. He was awaiting trial for sex trafficking charges inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York.

Woody Allen’s Height and Net Worth

Allen was born on December 1, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York. The filmmaker is currently 86 years old and is 1.65cm tall. 

Allen, who has been in the industry for many decades, is worth $140 million.

Music Group “AJR” Made A Song About Woody Allen 

The music group AJR 2015 released their debut album titled “Living Room.” The album contained 13 tracks. The seventh track, titled “Woody Allen,” was made in tribute to the veteran filmmaker.

Although the whole album had very poor reviews, the track “Woody Allen” was one of the worst. The instrumental was below par, and the chorus where the singer declared he felt like Woody Allen was not popular among fans.

Woody Allen has a Documentary Titled “American Masters”

In 2011 PBS premiered “Woody Allen: A Documentary,” a three-and-a-half-hour “American Masters” biography.

The film follows the life of Woody Allen and his works in the entertainment industry. The first chapter examines the first ten films in his career. The second chapter discusses Allen’s subsequent 31 films. The documentary examines Allen’s films, their impact, and personal reviews from the filmmaker.
