In the wake of his exit from Warner Bros Studios following the “Wifebeater” controversy, “Fantastic Beasts” star Johnny Depp’s career staggers to a halt, a top lawyer confirms.
A recent article published on Dailymail reported that actor Johnny Depp’s Hollywood career might be over following his “wifebeater” scandal.
According to the publication, claims by a top lawyer suggested that the icon’s chances of working in the industry became slim to none after Warner Bros terminated his “Fantastic Beasts 3” contract.
The Gellert Grindelwald roleplayer revealed via an Instagram post on Saturday that the studio requested his resignation. He also confirmed he had obliged the request and would therefore forfeit his role in the “Fantastic Beast” franchise.
Following his departure from the movie months into filming, a media lawyer, Mark Stevens, relayed his fears that the move may, in fact, end Depp’s Hollywood career. He confirmed to Dailymail:
“This is devastating for Depp. He is now toxic. He will be known forever as a wifebeater, a drunkard, and a druggie. It will be written on his headstone.”
Warner Bros’ decision to fire Depp resulted from the actor’s messy year-round trial over the “wifebeater” headline published by The Sun. The headline, which questioned the studio’s decision to cast the “wife-beater” in “Fantastic Beast 2,” caused a public stir.
The court gave their final verdict on the case on November 2, dismissing Depp’s defamation claims against the newspaper.
Despite his constant denial of beating his ex-wife, Amber Heard, the court also ruled that the actor was indeed guilty of abusing Heard at least 12-times.
Losing the U.K libel suit further solidified Depp’s public image as toxic, and therefore left the studio with no choice.
Terminating his contract with Warner Bros is one of many pitfalls Johnny Depp has encountered since divorcing Heard.
As most may recall, the exes announced their separation in May 2016. Heard, who filed for the divorce, also requested a temporary restraining order against the actor, alleging domestic violence.
Heard accused her ex-husband of physically abusing her while under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances. She, however, withdrew the claims following Depp’s public denial.
The duo reached a settlement, with Heard receiving $7 million from her ex-husband, which she donated to charity.
Although they finalized the divorce amicably in 2017, the repercussions of the abuse claims remain a permanent stench on Depp.
