A recent report states that more Americans are turning to food banks as they express fear for the future and find it challenging to feed their families amid rising grocery prices.
“You used to be able to get five bags of groceries for $50, now you only get one bag for $50,” Janet Ortigoza, a mom from Fresno, California, told NBC News. “I am honestly scared to have another baby because I don’t think we will be able to provide for another baby. Now that she’s growing, she’s going to start eating three times a day, and just trying to provide the right nutrition to her, it’s hard.”
Jennifer Estrada told the outlet that she earned $7 more per hour than in 2022. However, she expressed that the cost of rent and groceries made it exceedingly challenging to feed her family of seven.
Ortigoza also told NBC News that she doesn’t plan to turn on her home’s heater during winter because utilities have increased.

Another American, Carl Willette, said he’s been relying on a food bank consistently for the first time. According to Jen Muzia of the Seattle Ballard Food Bank, “It’s costing us way more to buy food.”
Claire Babineaux-Fontenot, CEO of Feeding America, stated that demand is substantially higher now than during the COVID-19 outbreak.
“This is not just one group’s issue; it’s an American issue. Hunger is an issue in America across every demographic group, and now, growingly, across more and more levels of income,” she told NBC News.

Anita Garret, who uses a food bank in Milwaukee, told the publication that the boxes were shrinking. “The boxes they are giving the people are getting smaller and smaller. But the lines are getting longer and longer. Everything is getting cut, cut, cut. Everything is going up, up, up. I feel a depression coming,” she said.
The Biden administration, along with its allies in Congress and the mainstream media, claims that the president’s economic policies, known as “Bidenomics,” are delivering unprecedented benefits to American families.

However, America has seen some of its highest inflation levels under President Biden’s leadership. This has resulted in significant harm to all Americans, particularly impacting working and lower-income families.
Despite previous challenges, the U.S. economy is now showing significant improvement. In the second quarter of 2023, the Commerce Department reported substantial numbers, including higher-than-expected growth in gross domestic product (GDP), increased consumer spending, and business investment. Unemployment is decreasing, and average hourly earnings experienced the most significant gain in 12 months since March 2021.
