As far as Doug Burgum, current governor of North Dakota, is concerned, Joe Biden, the current US president, is a dictator. Many clips capture him saying it, and CNN’s Kaitlan Collins revisited them during a recent interview with him.
On the day it happened, Collins filled in for hosts Jake Tapper and Dana Bash. Armed with the clips, she confronted Burgum on CNN’s State of the Union.
Collins said: “I understand you don’t like President Biden’s policies on immigration or student loans, but respectfully, you’re calling the democratically elected president a dictator?”
Burgum, known as Trump’s potential running mate, responded by saying the president has bypassed Congress. He also lamented how his state of natural resources has to deal with over 30 rules from the current administration.

He does not like how Biden always gets his way, even when other branches of government oppose him. But then, people don’t expect him to have a different opinion, seeing as he is a Republican with unshaken loyalty to Trump.
Alex Floyd, a spokesperson for the Democratic National Committee (DNC), says Burgum can only talk so confidently while spewing lies because of the country’s fundamental rights and democratic institutions. All of these are things that Trump will reportedly put at risk.
Floyd said Trump is the only one among the candidates who promised to be a dictator right from day one. He also said the former president threatened a “bloodbath” if he loses the upcoming election during a rally in Dayton, Ohio, in March.

However, Trump made the statement while discussing the potential loss of U.S. auto manufacturing jobs under another Biden term. During Collins’ interview with Burgum, she tried to set the record straight. She said nobody expects him to like what Biden is doing, but it does not make this a dictatorship.
In response, the governor talked about a so-called non-stop media attack on Trump that claims he might use executive orders again upon becoming president. He implied that those claims are invalid because the country is already under a dictatorship with Biden in power.
Burgum cited various examples, including the border policy and inflation, claiming they were all areas where Biden had been using his executive powers to act alone. Collins resisted, highlighting how Trump actually signed more executive orders than Biden.

She also said that Biden’s recent executive action on immigration stemmed from the urging of GOP House Speaker Mike Johnson. Of course, Collins was right. There is evidence that Biden has signed 139 executive orders so far, while Trump signed only 220 during his tenure.
