In a “Jesse Watters Primetime” discussion, Chicago Alderman Raymond Lopez addressed his “constituents” sentiments regarding local Democratic leaders. He revealed that the feelings grew with the upcoming Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
In addition, the local democratic official highlighted the escalating animosity towards the Democratic Party, intensified by the growing migrant crisis. According to Lopez, the Black community feels abandoned, and they are “no longer feeling the love from Uncle Joe.”
Lopez revealed their sentiments grew as the city continues to try to make room and unique accommodations for migrants. At a recent rally near Chicago city hall, voters expressed anger, signaling potential unrest at the 2024 political convention.
Also, activists emphasized that expecting a “peaceful” convention while people suffer is unrealistic. “When you take a group of people that have paid no taxes, can’t vote, and you put them in front of the voters? We’re gonna show you how we feel about the Democratic National Convention,” a voter said.

“If you think you’re gonna have a peaceful Democratic National Convention while our people are starving, stay tuned!” Similarly, one woman firmly declared her departure from the Democratic Party. She cited disillusionment with leaders like Chicago Mayor Johnson, Illinois Governor Pritzker, and President Biden.
In addition, she expressed a preference for the transparency of the Republican Party. “Mayor Johnson, Governor Pritzker, and President Biden have shown us what they think about the Black community all over this country,” she said. “I’d rather deal with a snake in the Republican Party than a hidden snake in the Democratic Party!”
Consequently, Lopez echoed several sentiments from residents, noting that many Democrats feel alienated, perceiving their party as no longer representing them. He added that the Democratic Party’s leftward shift had disillusioned the voter base, pushing them toward the Republican embrace.
He said, “Most Democratic voters feel this party no longer represents them.” The Democratic official added that the Democratic Party left their “voting base off in the wilderness with nowhere else to go.”

He said voters know what to expect from Republicans. However, they feel deceived by Democrats. Concerns include the Democratic Party’s failure to deliver on vocalized promises.
Consequently, this led to a growing sense of betrayal among voters. Lopez told Watters he thinks the residents are worried that the Democratic Party says different things and does not deliver.
On the other hand, Mayor Brandon Johnson recently blamed the crisis on his predecessor, Democrat Lori Lightfoot. In addition, he said right-wing extremists are “going after democratically-run cities that people of color lead.”

Chicago residents have been speaking out as the city plans for a winterized base camp for migrants in Brighton Park. Also, residents say the city ignored their concerns about overcrowding and safety and fears that the campsite is on contaminated soil.
Consequently, they raised objections to the planned migrant base camp in Brighton Park. With over 24,000 migrants arriving in Chicago since August 2022, efforts to strip the city of its sanctuary status intensify. Also, it is triggering discontent among residents.
Amid the migrant influx, approximately 68,000 Chicago citizens are homeless, exacerbating tensions. Consequently, Chicago residents vowed to make their voices heard during next summer’s Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
