As the migrant crisis in the U.S. skyrockets, Republicans have called out the Biden administration over its inaction. Aside from the porous border, the Biden administration struggles with the safety and court dates of specific individuals, including Americans abroad and migrants seeking asylum.
Consequently, people question the administration’s ability to protect them. During a White House press briefing, reporters recently confronted Admiral John Kirby. They inquired about efforts to bring Paul Whelan and Evan Gershkovich home.
Paul Whelan, an American detained in Russia, reported concerns for his safety after another inmate assaulted him. Also, they asked about the perplexing situation of migrants given court dates as far ahead as 2031. Following the inquiry, Admiral Kirby acknowledged the severity of the problem.
He expressed deep concern and a commitment to ensuring Whelan’s Consular access. In addition, Kirby revealed that the administration is actively working on Whelan’s issue. He said they are working through the Embassy in Moscow to address these issues directly with Russian counterparts.

However, despite recent proposals, the Russian response has been off-putting. Consequently, the situation is in a precarious state. Also, Kirby revealed they closely monitor President Biden’s engagement in international negotiations, particularly with Russia.
During the press briefing, Kirby added that Biden regularly contacts the National Security team and Ambassador L. Thomas Greenfield regarding the efforts to bring Americans like Paul Whelan home. He says the administration remains dedicated to pursuing diplomatic solutions, even facing challenges.
After several inquiries about the safety of Americans abroad, the reporters shifted focus to other pressing matters. They asked Kirby about domestic concerns, especially about the migrant influx crossing the U.S. borders illegally.

Kirby, on behalf of the administration, acknowledged knowing about the situation. Also, he emphasized President Biden’s commitment to addressing immigration policy and border security. When reporters confronted him about the implications and the potential challenges for future administrations, Admiral Kirby deflected the question.
He deferred the specifics to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). However, he noted that the president believes in the need for comprehensive immigration reform. Kirby added that Biden plans to balance legal pathways to citizenship while holding individuals accountable for illegal entry.

However, Kirby’s evasive answers sparked outrage, upsetting people. Consequently, they made fun of him in the comments online. “I’m going to start using that line when people ask me about the ramifications of my actions,” a user wrote. “I’m not going to get into hypotheticals.”
While several users made fun of Kirby and criticized Biden’s decisions, others proposed solutions. “Give them jobs, and they pay taxes; we called it a green card because most migrants worked temporary agriculture jobs 50 years ago…,” another user wrote.
President Biden’s early actions reflected a commitment to immigration reform, urging Congress to engage in a serious discussion. While the administration works to increase legal pathways to citizenship, Biden believes in holding those attempting illegal entry accountable.
The administration states that balancing addressing immediate challenges and implementing long-term policy remains critical. However, Biden’s approach remains contentious, leaving the public unanswered questions.
