“Anyone who believes Donald Trump will unite this country has been asleep over the last 8 years. Trump intentionally tries to divide America and will continue to do so,” Asa Hutchinson, former governor of Arkansas, said in an X post. After indicting the former president, he publicly supported former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley. “Go @NikkiHaley in New Hampshire,” he wrote.
The prominent GOP governor Chris Sununu endorsed Haley, who has enjoyed a fantastic rise in New Hampshire’s polls. This has made the Granite State’s primary a must-watch event this season. Many anti-Trump Republicans have also thrown their weight around Haley since she emerged as a worthy challenger to the ex-president Donald Trump.
GOP Governor Phil Scott of Vermont expressed his desire to see Haley win around the same time Hutchinson did. He called on all voters in New Hampshire to stand solidly behind the ex-governor of South Carolina. “After years of controversy, violent rhetoric and growing polarization, the very last thing we need is four more years of Donald Trump,” his statement read.
Scott added that Haley is “our only chance to ensure America has the choice it deserves in November.” Some weeks ago, Larry Hogan, former Maryland Governor, praised Haley and called her the “strongest chance” and the best candidate to represent the Republicans in the forthcoming elections.

The Union Leader, reputed to be New Hampshire’s most prominent newspaper, wasn’t left out of the “endorse-Haley” scheme. In one of its editorials, the newspaper highlighted Haley’s virtues, especially her experience and character.
“If you can select a Republican ballot on Tuesday, we urge you to select Nikki Haley as your next president. New Hampshire is ready for a change. America is ready for a change. The world is ready for a change. We want a better option than we have had for the past eight years, and Nikki Haley is that option,” the editorial read.
Ironically, Haley’s endorsements from numerous anti-Trump crews are as much a risk as they are a blessing. Like many GOP candidates, Haley had tried not to challenge Trump directly. Only recently did she intensely criticize the ex-president, making it obvious that she wouldn’t accept a job as his running mate.

The moderate electorate in New Hampshire — many of whom are independent voters — were likely to find the messages against Trump enticing. However, it may have yielded the opposite effect with the conservatives in states with early voting. Meanwhile, Trump worked hard to use Haley’s independent support to his advantage. According to him, the liberals are trying to “infiltrate the Republican primary” in the state.
Again, Haley didn’t secure the endorsement of former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie and Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) Support from these two prominent national Trump detractors would have significantly helped her cause. Sadly, Christie, whose main aim was to take down Trump, also slammed Haley as he exited the race. Christie said about Haley’s prospects, “She’s gonna get smoked, and you and I both know it. She’s not up to this.”

Despite Haley’s massive support from many of the GOP candidates, she was still significantly behind Trump by a wide margin. Trump had also gotten support from the governors of North Dakota, Doug Burgum, Vivek Ramaswamy, and even a South Carolinian, Senator Tim Scott, and many others.
“It comes right down to, what does America need for the next president?” Scott recently asked on the “State of the Union” program on CNN. “The only conclusion is Donald Trump,” he replied. At the end of the day, Donald Trump defeated Nikki Haley in the New Hampshire Republican primary on Tuesday, January 23.
