Andrew Arthur Alleges President Biden “Is Breaking the Border on Purpose” Amid Migrant Crisis

The migrant crisis in the U.S. intensifies every passing day.

The backlog of pending cases in the nation’s immigration courts has now hit 3 million. This is because millions of border migrants have been allowed into the United States to seek asylum over the past three years.

However, this is a staggering figure, according to Andrew Arthur, the Center for Immigration Studies’ resident fellow in law and policy. This is the latest proof that the president is trying to break the immigration enforcement system.

He believes Biden is doing this likely to force the massive amnesty he has long sought. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas and many other people have accused former President Trump of “gutting” the immigration system. However, such claims are mere projections at best.

Annual southwest border apprehensions only crossed 405,500 once during the last presidency, in fiscal year 2019, when they hit 860,000. Trump responded with the successful “Remain in Mexico” program, pushing back illegal migration down again.

In the past two fiscal years, migrant apprehensions have exceeded 2 million. It is a new record (2.2 million) in FY 2022. Unfortunately, it only keeps getting worse. Reports indicate agents are apprehending more than 12,000 illegal migrants per day now.

It increased the previous figures to 4.3 million apprehensions this year. This is even though the administration allows 1,450 other migrants to pre-schedule their illegal entries using the CBP One app daily.

Add in 30,000 other Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans, and Venezuelans the White House accepts into the United States monthly, often at undisclosed interior U.S. airports for two-year periods of “parole.”

It’s no wonder the immigration courts’ dockets keep rising. Thanks to the law, DHS can’t deport those applying for asylum until judges order them to be removed. In non-detained cases, the process takes years.

It is enough time for the migrants to live and work while acquiring equities, making it even more difficult to send them packing. The only way to make the system work is to limit the amount of new migrants entering illegally.

The only way to stop illegal entries is detention, where cases take 42 days on average. However, President Biden refuses to detain illegal migrants, even though the law demands it. Agents can bypass that immigration-court process using “expedited removal.”

It dissuades aliens from making bogus asylum claims simply to gain access to the United States. However, the administration won’t let them use the tool. Of all the 1.496 million aliens apprehended at the border in FY 2023, fewer than 12% were subject to expedited removal.

All of this burdens the judges as they won’t be able to dig themselves out of this backlog for a long time. This only benefits the illegal migrants and not the interests of justice. One of Biden’s first moves as president was to send Congress an amnesty bill covering nearly every illicit immigrant and opening the door for migrants Trump sent home.

The White House blames the border crisis on Republicans for blocking it, but even Speaker Nancy Pelosi wouldn’t touch it with a ten-foot pole. Biden has given up on that amnesty, and if he couldn’t get Congress to pass it, Andrew Arthur suspects he’s trying to break the immigration system, forcing members to legalize all those who have entered illegally and start from scratch.
