Anderson Cooper’s kids, Wyatt and Sebastian Cooper, are the center of his world, and there’s no doubt that fatherhood has changed him a great deal.
When CNN star Anderson Cooper decided it was time to start a family, he knew he was ready for the beautiful and challenging parts. In 2020, the TV host began his fatherhood journey, and he is currently a dad of two.
Anderson has learned a great deal from being a dad, and he has admitted a few times that his new status has changed him. Here’s a look at his journey through becoming a parent.
Anderson Cooper Welcomes A Son
Back in April 2020, Anderson Cooper shared hearty news about his son’s birth. This was when the novel coronavirus was still in its terrifying early months.
Anderson, who had just hosted CNN’s “Town Hall” show, started his announcement on a sober note acknowledging the pandemic and its effect on families. He then ended on a lighter note saying:
“Even as we mourn the loss of loved ones, we are also blessed with new life and new love. On Monday, I became a father. I’ve never actually said that before, out loud, and it still kind of astonishes me. I am a dad. I have a son. And I want you to meet him.”
Anderson Cooper’s son Wyatt Morgan Cooper was born via surrogacy, and his birth meant his dad fulfilled his wildest dreams. Anderson recalled being a gay young man, who always wanted kids, but never thought it would be possible.
The award-winning Tv host shared some images on his Instagram page showing precious moments with the then-newborn. Wyatt was named after Anderson’s late dad and also in honor of his mom Gloria Vanderbilt.
Anderson Becomes A Second-time Dad
Earlier in February 2022, the “Anderson Cooper 360” star announced the birth of his second child. Anderson had shared on his aforementioned show while showing a sweet photo of his first child Wyatt. Anderson stated:
“If he looks particularly happy in this picture, it’s because he now has a baby brother.”
The doting dad went on to share the new baby’s moniker Sebastian Luke Maisani-Cooper, who he welcomed with former partner Benjamin Masisani. Anderson and Benjamin are also parents to Wyatt.
Anderson reflected on his late family members, noting that he felt their presence. The star added that he strongly felt their love for the newborn baby.
Anderson Cooper’s Kids Changed Him
Eight months after becoming a first-time dad, Anderson spoke of his experience on Sirius Xm’s “Quarantined With Bruce.” He stated that he didn’t think he would have decided to without being ready.
Anderson added that being a dad absolutely felt like what he should be doing. The star dad stated that he, in fact, wished he had started his fatherhood journey sooner.
The “60 Minute’ host shared that the pandemic lockdown provided ample time to spend with little Wyatt. He went on to describe what his routine became after welcoming his son. Anderson shared:
“I’ve never woken up early in the morning. I now bolt out of bed at 7 without an alarm clock, or 6:30, and I want to be there when he wakes up at 8:45.”
The 54-year-old did not hide how smitten he was, describing being a dad as “the greatest thing ever.” Speaking to People in June of the same year, he explained that it felt like his “life had just begun.”
Anderson Cooper’s son has come to be his motivation to get up every morning and be there for him. The “Anderson Cooper Full Circle” anchor described watching his son’s wake as “incredible.”
