The twentieth season of “The Voice” became a wrap, with the talented teenage singer, Cam Anthony, beating some tough competitors to emerge as the grand winner.
Following a powerful rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good,” during the grand finale of “The Voice,” season 20, Cam Anthony earned himself the 2021 championship.
The 19-year-old’s win has garnered him widespread popularity, sending the media on a quest to gather juicy details about him. The quest seems successful so far, as Anthony’s background and music history is anything but boring.
A GLIMPSE INTO CAM ANTHONY’S LIFE
Cam Anthony is undoubtedly the newest star on the block thanks to his win on the singing competition show as a member of Team Blake. But before hitting the jackpot on “The Voice,” he had some popularity to bank on.
The teenager is a native of North Philadelphia, where he spent his early years. Growing up in the city exposed him to incessant violence and crime, forcing the youngster to turn to music as a form of escape.
ANTHONY’S SINGING CAREER
The young artist mastered the art of singing and learned to control his voice even before becoming a teenager. Anthony experienced his first wave of fame at eleven when a video of him singing a song by Bruno Mars went viral on YouTube.
His early fame landed him opportunities to open for big shots like Patti LaBelle, perform at the White House, and showcase his vocal abilities on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show.”
Dr Dre signed Anthony when he was twelve and promoted his recordings and music performances throughout his teen years. At the expiration of the contract, the talented artist gave “The Voice” a shot to boost his career, and the move certainly paid off.
CAM ANTHONY’S JOURNEY ON “THE VOICE”
Admittedly, the young singer experienced the time of his life on “The Voice” season 20. He joined the show during its premiere on February 22, 2021, as one of 40 talented contestants battling for the grand prize.
Cam Anthony stole viewers’ hearts with his first performance on the show, making him a fan-favorite throughout the season’s run.
On the first night of Blind auditions, the champion rendered “Lay Me Down” by Sam Smith, earning him a three-chair turn from John Legend, Nick Jonas and Blake Shelton. The trio were all impressed by the teen’s performance.
However, Nick Jonas blocked Legend from bidding for him, stealing away Anthony’s chance of joining Team Legend. The teenager admitted he always looked forward to being on Legend’s team as they had similar voices. But Jonas cut short those dreams.
Thus, he ended up on Shelton’s team, and the duo turned out to be a force to reckon with. For weeks, he sang his way to victory, stealing the hearts of “The Voice” coaches, his fellow contestants, viewers and the world at large.
Anthony’s win made the young artist the fourth African-American male winner and the first winner who had a coach blocked in their blind audition.
WHAT THE WIN MEANT FOR BLAKE SHELTON
After claiming his title as the winner of “The Voice” season 20, Cam Anthony extended gratitude to Shelton for letting him explore his artistry and have fun while at it. But the country star felt more obliged to thank the new champion.
He gave the youngster accolades for changing the show forever by making them a part of his journey. Notably, Anthony’s championship marked Shelton’s eighth win in ten years, adding to his record of being the coach with the most wins on “The Voice.”
Shelton took to Twitter, later on to congratulate the teen on his win. He also reiterated his earlier assertion that Anthony’s impact on the show would live on for a lifetime.
With such accolades from the renowned country legend and other iconic coaches on the show, now would be an excellent time to get onboard Team Anthony! Congratulations champ!
