It is common knowledge that Dave Chapelle’s SNL skits always trigger strong reactions, and when he took the mic on the January 18 episode, everyone knew they were about to go on a ride. The first half of SNL’s 50th season has had over-seven-minute stand-up openings from Hosts like Nate Bargatze, John Mulaney, and Bill Burr.
Still, Chapelle went further than that by delivering what is essentially the “longest monologue in SNL history” at nearly 17 minutes. The record he broke, which was just over 16 minutes, also just happens to be one he made during his appearance on November 7, 2020.
Dave Chapelle’s SNL Monologue
There were several skits in the latest episode of SNL, but this time, our focus will be on Chapelle’s lengthy monologue, which began with him strutting out dressed in a sexy suit and smoking a cigarette.

Over the next 17 minutes or so, the talented comedian talks about various controversial topics, including the Diddy scandal, the election drama, and the LA fires, which he joked were high cost while speculating humorously about conspiracy theories regarding their cause.
He also mentioned West Hollywood and Luigi Mangione, and there was a lot of Trump talk, as well as a tribute to the late President Jimmy Carter.
What Dave Chappelle Said on SNL About Trump
Chapelle talked about Trump in his SNL monologue a couple of times, mentioning his claims that Haitian immigrants were stealing and eating pets in Springfield, Ohio. He also wished the new President luck in his new regime, urging him and everyone else to “Do better.”
The talented comedian also asked people to be decent to others, especially displaced ones, regardless of where they live or how they look.
How People Reacted to Dave Chappelle’s SNL Monologue
Dave Chapelle’s SNL monologue has triggered mixed reactions from fans of the show and the public at large. While some have praised Chappelle’s humor, others have criticized his controversial jokes. On social media, some praised his ability to find humor in even the darkest situations.
However, others found his take on sensitive issues insensitive. Of course, Chapelle is no stranger to such division. In his long years as a comedian, he has made a lot of controversial statements, especially about the LGBTQ, some of which have gotten him practically canceled in those circles.
However, despite all the heat it has put on him, the comedian refuses to pander to the whims of society. Instead, he treats his art like journal entries, not caring how people react to it. This is why, despite the controversies and his affinity for pushing boundaries, Chappelle remains one of the most influential comedians of his generation.
How Often Does Dave Chappelle Host SNL Skits?
Dave Chapelle has hosted SNL skits about four times now, including the much-controversial January 18 performance. His first hosting gig was in November 2016, shortly after the presidential election, and he got an Emmy for it.

His latest appearance is his fourth time hosting SNL. And if the mixed reactions are anything to go by, he did not miss with this one too.
