Sunny Hostin and her husband, Dr. Emmanuel Hostin, have got each other’s backs as they battle a bombshell insurance fraud allegation. They have hired lawyers to fight back a lawsuit that has named Dr. Hostin among 200 defendants in one of the largest civil RICO cases ever filed in New York.
The co-host of ABC’s popular talk show “The View” has vehemently denied allegations that her husband has committed insurance fraud. This is coming after a notable insurance firm, American Transit, accused Dr. Hostin and many other physicians of trying to enrich themselves by manipulating the system.
But in her husband’s defense, Sunny Hostin has argued that American Transit, which is the plaintiff, is trying to avoid paying for their customer’s medical bills. She stated that the company wanted to “avoid paying for medical and surgical procedures for people it insured who were in pain.”
She also recalled the firm’s less-than-honorable history of passing the buck to others. “This company has a history of filing frivolous claims, has been investigated by New York State, and has been sued by Uber Technologies,” she also stated. Notably, American Transit covers insurance for Uber, Lyft drivers, and multiple taxi companies.
Joining Sunny Hostin and her husband, Dr. Hostin, in the fight are two top lawyers, Mark Geragos and Daniel Thwaites. Geragos has issued a stern warning to American Transit, advising it to drop Dr. Hostin’s name from their suit. He has threatened to sue the company for $5 million if they fail to comply.

What We Know About Emmanuel Hostin Insurance Fraud
In a suit American Transit filed in a Brooklyn federal court, it named Dr. Emmanuel “Manny” Hostin, 54, as well as his medical practice, Hostin Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine, as one of the parties who have engaged in “rampant” insurance fraud. Dr. Hostin practices from the eighth floor of an office complex on Lexington Avenue.
The insurance group claims that New York’s “No Fault Law” has been exploited by dubious medical practitioners. The law mandates insurers to sponsor medical costs for people injured in road accidents to the tune of up to $50,000.
In a statement, American Transit argued that “these substantial possible no-fault recoveries can incentivize providers with ill intent to over-diagnose, over-treat, and over-bill to recover the most money for themselves.”
The lawsuit, which the firm filed on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, alleged that Dr. Hostin “knowingly provided fraudulent medical and other healthcare services including arthroscopic surgeries.” It also accused him of sending the bill to American Transit “in exchange for kickbacks and/or other compensation which were disguised as dividends or other cash distributions.”
Citing instances, the suit alleged that Dr. Hostin attended to two accident victims in January 2023. According to American Transit, the patients were only involved in low-impact collisions. These injuries should only have resulted in “no more than soft-tissue injuries.” But Dr. Hostin exaggerated their treatments.
American Transit said Dr. Hostin performed arthroscopic surgery within two months. The company argued that he deliberately didn’t wait to see if the patients would have healed without the surgery.
Is “The View” Sunny Hostin and Husband in It Together?
Although Sunny Hostin isn’t involved in the suit, she has decided to fight alongside her husband. Interestingly, Sunny Hostin is also a lawyer. This means she understands the intricacies of the lawsuit and the damage it can cause to her family’s reputation.
She threatened that further delay in removing her husband from the lawsuit will increase the proposed $5 million damages. She stated that the amount is “likely to increase as the reputational damage that American Transit has intentionally caused is difficult to quantify at this time.”
56-year-old Sunny Hostin believes that her status as a popular media personality is part of the reasons why American Transit was encouraged to start a “disgusting media smear campaign against my husband, which included me and our children.”
She has also vowed to resist till the end. “American Transit is harassing me and my family in a frantic attempt to not pay its bills. Our family will not be intimidated and harassed. We remain unbowed,” she added. “Where I come from, American Transit will receive a PhD from FAFO (“F**k around and find out) University.”
In a letter, Geragos stated that the insurance firm is doing everything it can to escape bankruptcy. He accused them of resorting to the insurance fraud smear campaigns to save face.
“American Transit has a ‘pattern and practice of failing to adhere to reasonable claims-handling practices and failing to reasonably resolve claims and lawsuits on its insureds’ behalf,” he wrote in the letter.
