On Saturday, December 21, 2024, John and Furnish celebrated their 10th marriage anniversary following their wedding in December 2014. Prior to the legalization of same-sex marriage in the United Kingdom in 2014, the couple entered into a civil partnership in 2005.
Taking to Instagram, John and Furnish celebrated their tenth wedding anniversary and their nineteenth-year civil partnership. To celebrate the milestone, the couple took to Instagram to share a memorable image of themselves. In the image, John could be seen smiling beside Furnish, both wearing sunglasses, while enjoying their day out on a boat.
Captioning the picture, the couple wrote on their shared post, “Happy Anniversary to us,” adding a red heart and a rocket emoji. Although John and Furnish began dating in 1993, they were not legally bound until 2005 via a civil partnership. John and Furnish entered into a civil partnership at Windsor Guildhall on December 21, 2005, following the implementation of the Civil Partnership Act. Afterward, John and Furnish married in December 2014, nine months after the UK’s legalization of same-sex marriage in March 2014.

Elton John met Furnish, who was an advertising executive at the time, in 1993 at a mutual acquaintance’s dinner party. Following their meeting in 1993, John revealed he asked Furnish to a dinner party at his house in Windsor. Describing Furnish, John stated that although he was well dressed, he still acted very shy.

Over the course of their marriage, Furnish and John welcomed two children together, both boys. Their first son, Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, was born via surrogacy on December 25, 2010. Speaking with Barbara Walters, John opened up on welcoming a child and the bonding process.

Speaking on their marriage rule, Furish said, “Elton and I’ve never been dishonest with each other. We’ve always talked very openly about our feelings and when we’ve had challenges and things we have to overcome, we always talk it out.” Furnish added that their rule ensures they never go to bed angry or upset at one another.
