Singer Khalid coming out as gay may not come as a surprise to his most avid fans. After all, the talented singer has been a top figure in showbiz for some years, but he has barely been linked to a woman.
The singer came out as gay in a series of posts he shared on X on Friday, November 22. “There yall go. Next topic, please, lol,” the “Better” singer wrote next to a rainbow flag emoji. In the comment section, one user responded, “Wait, I hope Mr Khalid isn’t GEHHH!” To which he replied, “I am! And that’s okay.”
Why Did Singer Khalid Admit to Being Gay?
According to a post he shared on X, Khalid reportedly came out about his sexuality after someone outed him. But that does not mean he is ashamed of his sexuality. “Let’s get this straight (lmao): I am not ashamed of my sexuality! In reality, it ain’t nobodies business! But I am okay with me love yall,” he wrote.
Khalid was outed by Hugo D Almonte, who went on a rant about artists he’s had sex with. He wrote that “one of your favorite gay R&B singers” once offered him drugs and “tried to set me up and lie that I broke into his house.”

Almonte also posted a picture of them together and disclosed explicit details of an alleged sexual liaison between them. After confirming his sexuality, the singer wrote: “I got outted, and the world still continues to turn.”
What Happened Between Almonte and Khalid?
The man who outed Khalid as gay, Almonte, is also a singer with less than 750 monthly listeners. He claimed that the “gay artists that are out right now” are “shitty as fuck.” Then, he followed up by sharing a photo with Khalid.
Following his social media posts, Almonte told Rolling Stone that he intended to “share how he tried to use his power to silence me because I simply ended our relationship.” But he did not name Khalid directly.
According to Almonte, he has received death threats. He said, “It’s crazy that these people said I was chasing clout when I was holding onto this for five years.”
As for Almonte’s claims, Khalid addressed the situation on Instagram Live, clarifying the accusations made by Almonte were a source of concern. Khalid also claimed that the allegations of abuse and manipulation were the other way around, with Almonte being the abusive one.
Singer Khalid Is Embracing His Sexuality
Since the incident, Khalid has continued to defend his decision not to reveal his sexuality and is just about ready for it to become old news.
The R&B star has been defended by fans and fellow gay artists, including producers MNEK and Amorphous, who criticized Almonte for his posts.

“Your music can barely allow you to afford a small fry at jack in the box and you’re pressed about outing someone who has three diamond records. y’all are not the same, babes,” Amorphous wrote on X.
“If you’re intentionally going out of your way to be shady or cause mess, do not be shocked if your failing music career is brought up.” Similarly, Pop-R&B producer MNEK called it “loser Loser LOSER LOSER behavior.”
Who Has Singer Khalid Dated?
Khalid was reportedly linked to fellow singer Alina Baraz in 2018. However, besides her, we know of no other romantic affiliations Khalid has been in. The singer is intensely private with his romantic life, and if Almonte had not outed him, there is little doubt Khalid would have kept mute about being gay. After all, he believes the subject is personal and no one else’s business.
